Hi,

I have just been diagnosed with Costochondritis, Its been a mad 5 weeks I seem to have had a few different pains between the crippling chest pain that sent me to A&E like many others thinking it was my heart but got the all clear to a throbbing pain to the right or left near my sternum or aching where my arm meets my torso & shoulder plus my jaw cracks & clicks like crazy! I also had extreme tiredness when It 1st started but that has eased now, so I am at a point where I have not had the extreme pain for 10 days but I am left with aching and throbbing on and off I have been off work for 2 weeks but I  am panicing as I really need to get back to work but don't think I am ready also I am not sure if the fact that the worst pain has eased because its on the mend or because I am off and resting more, I had never heard of this condition, I read on some sites that it can be 6-8 weeks  and other sites saying 6 months recovery its all very frustrating!!! also I have had no problems with my breathing it does not affect my pain at all  I wondered if anyone else isnt affected by breathing as alot of the sites say it will be? I do jump a mile when the doctor feels my chest it is very tender, I am just using ibuprofen as I have iritable bowl and my stomach can tolerate them fine, I really feel for anyone trying to manage costochondritis! x

I haven't been diagnosed.  I had extensive heart tests, in ER to rule out heart problems.  Everything was fine.  I tried to get my primary to do chest x-rays for arthritis, but she didn't.  I was discharged with a diagnosis of stress!!  this discharging RN , said it was either my stomach, muscular or skeletor.
