2nd physio appt and I now have proper exercises to do, not just nice lay on your bed and raise your leg a few times - i shall be walking sideways through my house from now on stopping only when i come to a chair to swing my legs and when near a bed i shall lie on it ,not to rest, but to do wierd and wonderful things with my hips that i havent been able to do for quite some time - with any luck i will not be limping so much, if at all, when i go back in 3 weeks !!!!

Hi, these new moves....interested as I have no physio .... Means raising the knee and moving leg outwards etc, to get the hip to move in different directions and also help take body weight ?.  Let us know how you progress. Cheers

i have a sheet, cant show you the pictures but i will give you the written explanation-

      1. stand with your legs apart and feet parallel, transfer your weight fro one leg to the other and walk sideways, hand on waist and do not slide your foot but lift it

      2. lay on your back with knees bent. Squeeze your buttocks together and lift your bottom off the bed.return to starting position repeat 10 times

      3. lying on your back with knees bent, lift your hip up and keep it straight while shifting the weight over to one leg (this means when your hips are up you tilt to one side then the other - the aim is to eventually straighten one leg but not yet!) repeat 10 times

      4. the chair one - stand behind a chair or table and swing leg out to the side but be sure to keep a straight line and not lean forward - physio said draw a line or lat something on the floor to make sure leg keeps in correct place - do not lift foot at an angle keep toes pointing down

      hope that makes sense!!!

It sounds as if you're coming along quite well.  I'm 56 years old, and I've found this surgery to have weakened me considerably.  My last hip surgey I was 22 years old!.

I'll keep watching this site for good news !!

    Happy Easter,

i am about to e-mail HR and facilities at school and demand a new chair for my office that is able to be raised and doesnt wobble - in class i rarely sit down and if i do i perch on a table which is fine, but when we have to do all the stupid paperwork we have to sit down for a long time and i dont want a set back because of my stupid old wobbly chair!

I too am a teacher smile   I have been doing my paperwork sitting on the sofa with my legs stretched out..... seems to make it easier and I can take breaks -- also I can ice and still do paperwork or work on the computer

yeah, yeah, it means bringing work home, but so many of us do .... as long as the bag is not too heavy, this is working for me

I work as an ELL teacher so I am able to to sit down more often than a regular classroom teacher

      GOOD LUCK with HR!

    Hi

i haven't had my second physio and am two and. a half weeks post op. I have it next week so am still doing bed exercises.  Are you swinging legs up and down like in the book they give you ?  I walked around a supermarket with hubby yesterday after playing for a concert the previous night plus tried to do a few things in the house and last night my leg really hurt.

The nurse  looked at wound yesterday and said it was clean but hubby said it was quite long.  Am going to buy bio oil as everyone suggests.

Yes swinging exercise as in book but I am 6weeks post op, take it easy at only 2 weeks I was hardly doing anything you need to rest as much as possible or you could have a set back -supermarkets can wait!

I'm going on 19 days post op. and am curious about your exercises. I don't feel I'm recovering as fast as s and wonder if it could be those bed exercises I've been doing.,I,see people walking with no came or walker within weeks and I'm still using aids.

We all recover at our own speed, it's not a competition! This

forum is so helpful in showing how different we all are and for good advice (and a good laugh) at 6 weeks I am still using 1

      crutch it's fine

      Take care x

They sound very much like the exercises in the NHS booklet which I was given at the hospital and also the ones the Physio told us at my check up.  Good luck with them, they do get easier after a while.

what a visual!!! You should make a video and post so those anticipating surgery get a comforting chuckle!

on a more serious note..... so often we hear "do not overdo it" I have been very careful about that, I did not have in my mind set that we need to pay attention to those taking care of us..... last week I had "sub" physical therapist..... (I LOVE my regular therapist) I had not yet been back at work for a full week and had been off canes for two weeks.... he decided I should be doing full planks, bridges with my feet on a 3 ft diamter call, double side leg lifts, marching bridges...... it was hard to do them, but his response was '''oh just practice''  --- I should have been more vocal as to how hard those were.... my muscles are not yet ready

the next day I did not do any exercises -- the following day after work I tried doing the exercises but could not get through one set of any of them.... laid down on the sofa and barely moved for three days.....

basically had pushed the core muslces WAY too much --- and i clearly now know why they call them core muscles...smile, you use them for everything!

Back to my regular therapist and she had me on heat and light stretching, have not done any exercises for a week --- but have been able to go back to work so am getting some exercise

The level of pain has reduced and I know I will be fine, just a bit of a set back

SOOOOOOO smile  my words of wisdom - as Dawn has said before, we need to continually pay attention to all of our physicians and speak up about how we are feeling
