New fistula

Hi all. Just got home with my new fistula. Feels very weird. Hopefully the soreness will go. I hope my arm will be usable soon. The buzzing is hard to get use to. Anyone out there who is willing to share theit experience.

Is it an Radiocephalic or brachiocephalic?

What happened to your previous one?

Hi Ben. Short answer to your question is 'no idea'. Just the AV in my arm. Never had a fistula b4.

    Hi John

Don't worry, it will settle down. I had fistula surgery just over a year ago and couldn't stand the buzzing at first but you'll get to the point where you don't even notice it. Good luck and all the best.

Susannah r u doing dialysis yet? How do you feel? Can you use your fistula arm as well as before the fistula? R u doing it at home? Do u need help setting it all up? Do you feel good?

      So many annoying questions. Sorry

Hi John, I was dialysing at my local unit 3 times a week for a year. I was careful not to lift anything heavy with my fistula arm but apart from that I could use it as normal. My fistula lasted 12 months then clotted (they didn't tell me it could stop working until long after I'd had it done!) and so I had to have a Tesio line put in my chest (another unpleasant procedure and more scars) while I waited for a new fistula to be created. Luckily after a month of dialysing with the line I received a transplant and so now I'm free of dialysis for as long as the kidney lasts. To be honest, had I been given the full picture about fistulas at the beginning, I would certainly have given more consideration to PD instead. Sorry to sound negative but that's my experience, I hope yours is a better one.
