New floater suddenly appeared

I hope everyone is well! I have had a floater in my right eye for years and have got used to it being there. suddenly yesterday one appeared in my left eye. Obviously at this terrible time of Covid 19 I do not want to have to go hospital and my opticians have closed. I can still see well out of the eye apart from this silly blob flying around! Last night I put in some drops for dry eye and for a short while had some very small flashes at the left side of the eye but have not had that today. I am very scared as I have not been out for three weeks as I am 74 and self isolating.Any advice would be appreciated. I am hoping to wait at least until Tuesday to follow up if it gets worse.

I am afraid I cannot give good advice, but this is my take on it. .... As I have mentioned here before, my first floater (right eye) appeared after eye dilation at the optometrist (optician?) and two additional floaters in the same eye after dilation at the ophthalmologist a few days later. In the same eye I did have a few small flashes, what I seem to remember, a few days later. This was early summer last year. I have not has any flashes since, not have a I developed more floaters. The few that I have are still bothering me, even as I type this response. Again, not any advice, I am afraid, just an anecdote as it relates to my situation. Good luck.

Thank you for responding. It has encouraged me, certainly not to rush to hospital at this point!

Thank you so much! even though they are pesky, I can live with them as long as it is not a sign of something serious. I'll see how it goes over the next few days.

Floaters are completely normal, as is PVD, the thing eye doctors a are watching for is a retinal detachment. If this were to happen you would typically have a black "curtain" over part of your vision. Typically we like to monitor people who are having flashes. But usually it is a few weeks after the flashes have stopped. Since that means that the gel inside your eye is no longer pulling on the retina causing the flashes. So my recommendation would be to call your eye doctor and let them know what is going on. But as long as you are having the flashes it means the gel is still attached.

That is of course what I'm worried about! Ive only had a few flashes so far and am even getting used to the floater a bit. Thank you so much! I will call the opticians on Tuesday. They are closed but have a telephone service. I am just scared I will have to leave the house during this time. Luckily I am not getting the black curtain and can still see well. Thank you again for your advice.

Happy Easter! I'm going to ask what is probably a silly question! I am exercising on a stepper during the lockdown and am wondering if I should stop while I am having these eye concerns? I am wondering if the jolting action will aggravate the condition and even cause a retinal detachment? If anyone could advise or give an opinion, I should be grateful.

Replying to myself as I should have googled it! It seems that I should not engage in any exercise that jolts the eye so I guess the Stepper is out! what a shame! I will just have to walk around our very small flat!
