New fracture non surgery

Hi newby Achilles' tendon torn 3 weeks ago.

Went down the non surgical route as my tendon was not totally torn. I am in an air boot with 4 heel lifts and was put  in this straight from A & E although at the time was given 3 heel lifts later transferred to 4!. I have been told to remove heel lifts myself every 2 weeks until all heel lifts have been taken out, appointment booked at fracture clinic in 8 weeks. I do not have any other contact with the doctor except have been told to make pre appointment with physio department.

has anyone else experienced this firm of treatment and should I be doing anything else to aid my speedy recovery, god wish it was speedy. Feels like having a hot cement boot stuck to your leg sometimes! I have been trying to weight bear a little and managed one crutch today, each day is a new achievement, I suppose that comes with courage.

      Hi Pacehuman,

not not had surgery I did not have a complete tear so decided against surgery although had the option if I wanted. I understood if I had a complete tear of 5mm or more then an operation would have been advised.

Hi Karen, sorry my fault, i mean you had same injury as me, today i went to fracture clinic and they just changed the plaster after two weeks .

They have given me another appointment after two weeks and advised me may do a scan or ultra sound and see what action they haveto take.

Iam really disapponted with NHS. To be honest with you.

      Thx

Wow, you were in plaster? I went straight into an airboot. I haven't got an Ppointment until the end of July and no ultra sound scan offered although I did ask for one. I only have to make an physio appointment. Have you got heel lifts in your boot?, if so how many? Are you having to self inje t, not liking that. Are you able to walk on your foot as yet?

I was on plaster from day one, they put my leg into plasterandparis plaster and today changed into synthetic plaster for next two weeks.

Cant put any weight on the right foot because of partial rupture of tendon achilles.

So no boots involved. I am self injecting Fragman. Its ok, dont mind!!

But, i really dont like NHS.

Did you had ultra sound, x ray?

      Imran,

funny how the NHS differs so much from area to area.

I did have an x ray and ultra sound and when test was done for Ultra sound was told my tendon were just touching. If you are in plaster all be it synthetic you obviously font have heel lifts. His bad is your rupture and where do you live?

I have only just started very light pressure with boot on but mainly rule on my crutches although I have just yesterday tried one crutch on my right which is my torn tendon foot.
