If you don't mind me asking what sort of job is it that requires you to have a polce check. Do you mean a DBS report ie Disclosure and Barring Service. The only job that I have ever had to have a medical for was from my Council before I started a PGCE teaching course.

I have found this NHS webpage on the subject which quotes regarding the Access to Medical Reports Act 1988 and Disability Act

    www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2313.aspx?CategoryID=190&SubCategoryID=1905

I am not a lawyer nor an employment expert. I think that you should go to a CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) as I think that you need to obtain expert advice on this.

My DBS Came back clean it's the medical report that will end my chances of the job. It's working as a family support worker/child protection. I've been to see my GP and told her I'm not happy it's very negative saying my mental health is serious. It was after my last child in 2011 but I'm doing really well now . Can't claim any benefits as my hubby works so I need a job! It's really unfair and frustrating. Trying to better myself and move on from a bad period in my life . Thanks for advice .

Well, I obviously can't comment - but I have been through all that 20 years ago. I was working in local government in London and I was still in hospital and I was having to go to Occupational Health at the local hospital. Again as soom as there were any greenshoots I was made to go bcak to work. After a year I had to take early retirement due to ill-health because I couldn't hack my job ie I wasn't able to perform at the level specified in the job description.

So what you describe is hardly unfair. I was working in a professional role and nothing to do with childcare etc.

Personally I am amzed that you should consider that your state of mental health might have no effect on your performance in this role.

Just think all the current publicity regarding child protection.

But you have a right to see any report - as you have done - and if it is incorrect you have the right to respond to it and to get it corrected if it is wrong.

I think that you really know the answer to your own question.

As they say on Dragon's Den - I am out.

4 years ago I would not have been fit for work I don't dispute that one bit. Now I think this job would be a fantastic chance to show my capabilities passion in this field of work. I'm ex military and have worked with children all my life after coming out the army. I have a children myself and I know I'm a great Mother always putting my children first. I can't change my past mental health status but I don't think it's fair that it should be held against me now.

My own doctor said she feels for me and had requested a appointment with my psychiatrist ASAP. I wouldn't take the job if I thought for one minute that I'd put anyone including myself in jeopardy. My last job references are fantastic so that's proves I am capable of giving my self the best to my abilities. The trouble with mental health is you get stigmatised for life.
