it all started with me two years ago when i was suffering with pin and needles and pain in my hands, i was told it was carpal tunnel so had the operation on both hands. since then i have been getting more and more pain and different syntoms. i was told i had polymyaglia in march 2014 by a rheumatologist and put on steriods. since then the pain has increased. i get tingling feelings and stabbing pains . i also find it difficult to walk and was a stick most days. i went back to the rheumatologist as i have bad mussel spasams in my left arm and now he has referred me to a neurologist. could this be ms?

Your story sounds horrific and negligent !  Yes, it could be MS.  Your symptoms should have suggested to your GP that it could be something neurological.  MS symptoms are vast, but the right tests need to be performed to confirm that it is indeed neurological.

Yes it can be MS, they will need to do an MRI of your head and spine because MS can attack anywhere along th Central Nervous System. That is why it is so hard to diagnose because the symptoms are so varrying.

That being said, the best thing you can do until you are diagnosed is to boost your immune system a multivitamin and b complex will take care of that. Also for me i must stay out of the heat to keep symptoms at bay. Taking care of yourself is the best medicine for MS.

Keep track of your symptoms and what you were doing 24 hours before they occur this will give you an idea of what triggers them and what to avoid. My biggest trigger is getting overheated or over excited. Championship soccer game in the heat of summer is a deffinite NONO but I went anyway. I survived and recovered.

Take care. I hope all goes well.

Hi Tam,  Vitamin B is not the answer.  MS is triggered because of defeciency in Vitamin D and because of this many types of foods can trigger attacks.  Once you have built the right levels of vitamin D in your body, you will notice that your MS symptoms get better, and if you can maintain optimal levels of vitamin D in your body, you will find that MS attacks stop.  You should start taking high dosages of vitamin D3 6,000 IU's daily to start of with, for the first 3 months and then slowly decrease the dosage if your body has reached the optimal levels.  You should have regular blood tests for vitamin D (I would say every month).  Having said this, I am only under the prosumtion that you have MS.  You will only know this once you have had all the right tests.

Yes you are correct my Vit D3 I forgot about. At this time I take 10,000 per day because my levels are so low. I just forgot because it was a perscription for me until it became over the counter. Duh on me. Thanks for the reminder.

i have had lots of blood tests and they did show very low vit D. i now take 500mg/400iu twice a day. i have just tried to walk with my stick to the local shop and really struggled. my legs got heavier as i walked and my lower back started to hurt really bad. i had to keep stopping. im only 42 and im worried as im going on holiday in oct and because i have no diaginosis yet, im worried if i have more bad attacks while im away.

My attacks take 8 to 12 weeks for recovery. This is my normal for attacks. everyone is different. If your Holliday is a restful relaxing out of the heat holiday go for it. If it is a hussle bussle see all you can holiday you will be disappointed. Rest when you can is the best of medicine in any type of disease. But dont stop you have to Live not give in to MS.

Sorry to repeat myself, and I must sound like a spoilt sport, but until your vitamin D levels reach an optimal level, you should refrain from drinking alcohol, as it can deplete vitamin D levels sad

If not too hot get Vit D from the sunshine it is the Best source. Have a great time!

Your vitamin D intake is too low.  It takes many months for your vitamin D levels to become optimal and for this you need to increase the intake to at least 6,000 IU's daily without fail.

Sorry to contradict you, but until tam's vitamin levels reach an optimal level, sunshine, sunbathing and heat will actually bring on symptoms and MS attacks, so the only way until then, is for her to take vitamin D orally.

That is why I mentioned above if not hot she can get additional vit d from the sun.
