New Here! Does fibromyalgia get worse with age?

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi everyone,

I am 26yo and have been diagnosed w/ fibromyalgia. I als have TMJ pain/ which I was told goes with the territory of fibro, as well as depression and high anxiety. I currently take 40mg of cymbalta for both depressionand fibro.

My fibromyalgia seems to have gotten worse the last few months. I am getting more flare ups and they are especially bad ones. They leave me in pain, exhausted and feeling defeated. My question is what are some things you do for relief? And does fibro get worse as you age?

Sincerely,

Feeling frustrated

I hope it doesn't get worse with age, I'm nearly 40 and was only diagnosed around October last year. Stress is a massive factor and I find that if we can manage that we have a good chance, problem is my stress levels go up and down all the time. I'm trying new relaxation techniques as well as seeing a therapist.

      Thanks Oompa,

I am happy to hear that. I have been especially stressed lately, so I am contributing it to htat as well. I have just had more bad days than good lately and was then thinking.. "gosh I hope age doesnt make this worse. " wink I am pretty young to have this, but am glad I got a diagnosis 3 years ago.  I was happy to know I wasn't crazy, there actually is a reason for all the symptoms and pain.

Absolutely Panda, I had a gp tell me it was all in my head I don't agree with violence but I wanted to hit her, I wanted to go back and say well if it was in my head then why do ultrasounds show signs of trauma as do xrays, chiropractor saying there's definitely a problem as well as a masseuse who focuses as well as pain management specialists. Anyway it's not easy, but I have been told acceptance is key, and I guess I don't help myself by thinking I don't have a problem, I have been invited to mindfulness sessions to allow me to discuss and deal with the problems, just take it easy and definitely talk to someone. Sending you well wishes ?
