Hi there,

I am a chronic ibs sufferer and have been most of my life. Since my early teen years. You think by now I would be able to manage it but I just struggle so much.

I have been suffering with loose bowels for over a week this is accompanied with pain before going.

I also suffer with chronic anxiety! I have had a lot of stress over last couple of weeks. I just wondered if anyone had any good advice or ideas to help to bulk my stools up and to help the pain. I take buscopan to help but it's not helping greatly. My appetite is very limited at the moment and I'm also not sleeping well.

I have two young children and am struggling so much with the school run.

Thank you for reading xx

Many thanks

I wish I had some ideas for you.  I have had it since I was a teen and the older I get the worse it is.  I would have bouts of diareha like 3 times a year.  Now I get it at least once a week!!  Then I don't go for a week.  It is terrible.  Now when I get the pains I also get a knot in my throat and makes me feel like I am going to through up.  I will be talking to my dr soon about medication I can take to help me with it.

Thank you for replying. It is so debilitating isn't it. I have two young boys and getting them to and from school is becoming more and more of a challenge, thanks to my bowel troubles. It just never seems to get any better. I hear of so many people going into remission with it. I don't. It's constant. Every day. I hope you can speak with your doctor. Mine seems to have given up on me xx

    Hi Kit Kat

I am new to this forum. I have newly bee diagnosed with IBS, although I have suffered since my teens and I am now in my early fifties.

My GP has recommended the low-fodmap diet and also prescibed Mebeverine 135mg tablets for the pain. So far so good as it is controlling the excessive bowel movements, which were horrible. I was difficult at work, as had to go about six times a day sometimes!

I will have to ensure I am getting all the nutrients under this diet though as I can't have dairy products and some vegetables, and I sm feeling a bit tired since starting new diet

Hope this is of some help.??

Thank you for your reply. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I will look into the fodmap diet. I can't have milk as I am intolerant to it. This only happened in my early 20s. Up until then I could have milk quite happily. It's certainly not a nice thing to suffer with. I do wish there was more that could be done sometimes. Xx

I would certainly recommend the low fod-map diet. I only started it last week and already it is controlling my IBS. Not sure if you can have lactose free milk, but I do, and all is fine. I also have gluten free products. Some fruit is good, such as bananas and strawberries but apples and tinned fruit are not. Your GP will give you a diet sheet.

      All the best xx😊

As other people have suggested, why not give the Low FODMAP Diet a try? I was diagnosed with IBS about 9 months ago and my GP recommended this food plan. I wouldn't say my IBS is cured as I still get an occasional flare, maybe once every 2 or 3 months, but it it has certainly transformed my life. I had got to the point where if if I was going out, even just shopping, I wouldn't eat as I was so concerned I'd need to get to a loo urgently. Since eating Low FODMAP It never even crosses my mind that I might need the loo if I'm out. It doesn't work for everyone but giving it a try might just help you. I've found it also helps with the pain, cramps and bloating.

I know how debilitating this condition can be but it CAN be managed and controlled.

    Best of luck.

Yes, I would certainly agree. After just days following this diet, it has really helped the IBS. I would recommend sufferers ti give it a try. I always had to go to the loo after eating, now it is a healthy once a day visit for a bowel movement.

It is great to feel normal again!

Thank you so much for replying everyone. I will have to have a look into the fodmap diet. I am willing to try anything to get my tummy a bit more comfortable. It really gets me down xx

I have very mild pain which only flares with stress. Buscopan dulls the pain along with Nurofen.  I don't take much medication because I I can usually ignore the discomfort.  I don't have food triggers but if you do, try Fodmap.

Hi Buddy ! I completely understand your problem as I've been suffering for more than 10years. After many years of hit&trial medication, now my condition is pretty stable with 'Amitriptyline'(15-25-50mg; stable at 25mg now). As my doctor  suggested me - nothing can fix it forever other than Yoga and I really agree. So please get Yoga poses for IBS-D either on net or with some Yoga instructor, and also trace which food increases trouble (in my case cottage cheez, dry fruits and read meat is troubling). Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    NS

Thank you. I will look into the yoga. I'm willing to give anything a try. I have a very long list of trigger foods. To the point I don't know what I actually can eat most of the time. I tend to stick to chicken, rice, potatoes. I don't have any milk after developing an intolerance to it several years ago. Will definitely look into yoga. X

Before suggesting the way to cure it, I would like to say it is the stress cause you sickness. So try to deal with your stress and the symptoms will withdraw by itself. Whatever happen think of the future of your boys, you are healthy then your two boys will be looked after well. Keep your mind off worries. Let it be and pray to the Lord if you are Christian. I am sufferring IBS long time for more than 16 years but now I realized it is the stress and when I deal with stress, my symptoms seems to relieve. I change the way of thinking. I came from Viet Nam as refugee since 1988 with a 9 years old daughter. You know life is not easy for me when you have nobody with you, no parents, no partner and I confront lots of bullies issues for I am alone, from my neighbour to my work. I had to support not only my daughter but I have to sent money back to Viet Nam to help my Dad who was sick and passed away, to help my mum, my sibling for the condition in VN is so bad at that time. Too many commitments, too much responsibility and I had all sort of sickness. There was a time I have to work 5 casual jobs to keep my head above the water. So even you are in very stressfull situation, think of others, try to calm yourself. I believe there is a solution for any problems. The worse is if you cant find a solution then what you worry does not change so why worry it just be patient and wait, time will help. It is not for you but for all of us who worry and worry is the cause of all illness. Drink camomile tea will relieve the anxiety and worry and it helps you to get rid of toxic and good sleep. Take St John's wort for sleeping.  Stop drinking coffee or alcohol, milk or bread, no high process food, using food elimination method to eat proper food for your digestion. Best of wishes for your health.
