New Hippy, swelling, acne issues, infections??

Hi, I am 6 weeks out since my anterior Hip replacement, I found myself coming to this site looking at similar issues, it has helped! I am 46, had my replacement, and Dr. had to lengthen leg half inch, scrape the pelvis as well, went to work at 4 weeks with a cane, light duty. PT 4th week pulled groin muscle still not healed..I am paranoid about developing infections..I get severe cystic acne(at my age) had a few of them burst on my buttocks and I do have an appt with DR next week. I noticed my swelling around incision is more than usual than the last few weeks, I am full time now at work, and a mom who cleans too much. I need a cane for doing the stairs up, not down. I have no fever or chills but wondered if this acne will cause infection in joint? thanks!!

Welcome, Jess! I would check with my surgeon's office on this one. I would imagine that any break in the skin can be a place where infection can set in, but have no idea of the chances of your situation actually affecting your replacement. It's amazing that you are working full-time already, as I was still not doing too well at 6 weeks.

    Welcome Jess,

First of all , you are one tough cookie! It sounds like you've been doing quite a bit, maybe that could be the reason the area is swollen? Does it look inflamed as well? I would ask your doctor as soon as possible so that you can ease your mind and know what to do. Good luck and keep us posted.

Its not red,no drainage, no fever..which are the symptoms I heard to look out for, just wondered what an infection would feel like..I am happy with the surgery, ceramic and titanium, and I checked I do not set off metal detectors either!! I occasionally get a stabby pain shoot down the buttocks if I sit too long. I also am sore where they used the epidurel, that was the most painful thing I had to deal with..I almost passed out.

    Hi Jess

welcome to the forum. Sorry you are going through this. Most people are just as scared of an infection as they are of dislocation. Getting an infection is rare if you look after yourself well.

With  your situation I would err on the side of caution. Not all infections show themselves as fever, hot areas or you feeling ill till the infection has really set in. I would go back to the hospital and have a chat with your surgeon. He may put you on strong antibiotics for a short time just to be sure your covered.

I li hope you will be fine though. 👍

I did not have infection, scar was a little red, flaky and crusty. My Dr. said sometimes with internal stitches the body sends the white blood cells to kill the foreign material, it would have clear fluid and be red until my body was done doing what it does.(no time limit) I still have swelling in area that is barely noticable to anyone but me.
