New LTHR one week ago

Hello, I had my left hip replaced, anterior approach, last Monday. I'm 44 and had SCFE in both hips as a child with severe arthritis for the past 30+ year in the left hip. So far, so good. I'm walking with a cane around the house and doing the leg lifting exercises but I was told PT was "optional" and so I don't start until next Friday. A little sore, I over did it around the house today. Sleeping is tough, I sleep best with two pillows between my legs on my right side. Just wanted to say hello! Also, I'm an american.

Hi glad to hear u r doing ok. The anterior approach is not as popular on the UK most ops seem to be posterior. Got my pre op on 15th November op will b in the N.Y. too many commitments prior to Xmas. Still not sure about going ahead maybe I am not bad enough more uncomfortable than painful. It's more the not being able to walk any distance and walking with a definite limp.

hi"....I also had my left hip replaced on July 5 of this year anterior. went to HSS in NYC. Im doing great. There are times when i overdo im sore. learn what your body can take. One day at a time. I had PT for a few weeks after, but it was done online live with a PT from HSS. I was told that the hip will heal itself. Very important to keep moving and do the exercises they give you. Im getting ready to schedule my right hip now. I want to be FINALLY be pain free and able to move around better!! Get well soon...

hello and welcome to the best place for help, advise and encouragement 😁
It sounds like you are doing really well.
I'm very envious of you sleeping on your side.
I'm an almost hedgehog sleeper, curl up, on my side while nicking the quilt of my ever tolerant hubby 😂 unless it freezing and he then moans!!
I'm 3 weeks into my LTHR, I was 46 when I had my right side done 3yrs ago. and the worse part for me was/is having to sleep on my back for 6 weeks. I'm now counting down the days until I can hedgehog again 😊
good luck in your recovery, we are all different in the way we heal and the only bit of advice I'd give
you would be.....
listen to your body! if it feels good, that's great if not, there is always tomorrow
oodles of well wishes

Hi everyone and thanks for all the encouragement. My incision is starting to itch- I imagine that's normal, right? Its all bandaged and taped up and a tiny but pink where I'm trying not yo itch.
I could not sleep on my back so I was really happy when they told me that side sleeping is ok. I think I'm done with the Oxycodeine.
The hardest part is the boredom. My four-year-old is home this week so we are hanging out but its not very exciting for her, either.

Hi, glad you are doing well. I had no bandages/tape, no staples either, just internal disovable stitches and glue. Once bandage is off try the cream with the big letter and two numbers and the topical scar oil (mods will hold this if we name brands!) once the pinkness has abated, that will stop the itching.
Happy recovery
