New Pain Post Hernia Repair

Posted , 3 users are following.

Short history: appendectomy while 32 weeks pregnant, flesh eating infection requiring 7 surgeries and a wound vac, incisional hernia, delivered baby, hernia repair....3 months later the hernia recurred.

I am now 16 days post (second) hernia repair. It was repaired laparoscopically on one side of my abdominal wall and via a 4-5 inch incision on the other. I call it a mesh sandwich.

The repair was done on my lower right side. The hernia was essentially right at the edge of my front pubic bone. I finally started feeling great, but yesterday I started having a very odd pain where the front leg hole seam of my underwear sits. That's the best decription I can give of the location. It feels as if the seam is being forced into my skin.... but it occurs internally, even when I'm not wearing underwear.

I can no longer stand for long periods and if I don't move JUST RIGHT, the pain is searing.

This is a good deal of distance from my incision (more than my hand's length) but it is obviously related. I'm calling my doc Monday, but has anyine experienced this???

What kind of hernia do you have? I have a hiatal hernia and my doctor says to not have the surgery unless absolutely necessary because once they start cutting it weakens the wall which will require more surgeries. You would think with the new technology out there they would be able to have an alternative surgery that works. Hope all goes well with you.

It was originally an incisional hernia. When I had tissue removed from my infection, my uterus/baby tipped into the empty area and weakened my abdominal wall, causing the original hernia. The recurrent hernia was at the edge of the original repair.

Surgery is not up for discussion, as I already had surgery over two weeks ago.

Hi, it could be nerve damage. I had a large incisional hernia repair almost 8 months ago and have experienced a "burning" pain exactly where the widest point of the hernia was. It was quite intense, I had to sit down and rest for a while. My consultant suggested that the pain could be associated to nerve damage and this should improve. I'm pleased to say this has been the case and I've noticed over the last few weeks the pain has occurred must less in both frequency and intensity. I hope this will be the case for you too, but I would also request another appointment with your consultant to discuss this.

I was wondering if that could be the case. The odd part is the pain is nowhere near where the repair was done.

However, it was done both with the robot and with a huge incision, so I'm assuming LOTS of "things" were affected.
