New Pain when sitting

Posted , 9 users are following.

I was diagnosed about 2 years ago with LS. My Gyn put me on 2 creams. Clob and Estrace. I am suppose to use these on alternately nights. The Estrace has always caused burning especially the next day. Sunday night I sat down and almost screamed with pain. I left off both creams that night. Monday it hurt a little when I first sat down. Since then it has seemed better when sitting. Last night when I put the clob on I touched what felt like a raw spot and it burned.

I see the Dr in the morning but I'm so scared. Any advice or comforting words would be appreciated.

Thanks

Martha

THANK YOU! I think that ESTRACE IS VERY Irritating. IVE Rread articles on Ls from MAYO and CEDARS and they dont mention hormone ointment.

jackie, they are two very different creams used for different reasons. Some women use only one, some both, depends on if their issues are AV, LS or both.

The hormone cream is for low estrogen which causes AV; the steroid is to keep the LS under control. Theoretically LS is your immune system attacking your genital area and the steroid tamps that down.

Women with just atrophy require the hormone cream because they are producing too little of it. My gyn said my LS was caused by too little estrogen. I am post menopause, but for younger women with LS there doesn't seem to be an explanation for it other than auto-immune... for which western medicine has no explanation.

As I suggested to Martha, she could try an estrogen cream with a different formula. She may be reacting to the base cream as well as the hormone itself. My cream was compounded with a preservative free base cream and still caused some soreness. My gyn suggested mixing it with vaseline for its neutral PH benefit. I thought it would weaken the strength, but she said it would not.

I'm sure Martha's doc will have a recommendation as it appears to be pretty common for hormone creams to cause soreness, unfortunately.

Martha, Seems like the hardest part about this darned disease is that we never seem to know what's going on? Is it a flare-up? a reaction to the meds? a yeast infection? a uti? just soreness from sex? cancer? fusing? unfusing? skin thinning? skin thickening? should I wash? dry? pat? rub? tp? bidet? rinse? oil? vaseline? aloe vera? borax? baking soda? epsom salts? warm? cold? 90 seconds? twice a week? 3 times? every day? never?

deeeep breath! Sounds to me like a flare-up that has gotten irritated by one of the creams or maybe your clothes or something. If I have a flare in and then eat sugar or wine or anything at the same time, seems to make my body go nuts.

But, you will know tomorrow. (unless it heals and they don't see it at its worst, which is good and bad). If I were you, and you have the time, I'd go sit in a tub and think about how glad you are that you can see the doc tomorrow. And seriously, some deep breathing...

Thank you! This is a real depressing disease! After awhile it gets on your nerves. I'll post what the dr says. Thanks again

Snappy - you have summed up this frustrating and horrible process perfectly there. So much of our managment of LS is hit and miss and we are lucky if we get it 'right' for any period of time. Trying to keep track of what works and what doesn't is a nightmare. I sometimes feel like I am trying to out-wit my own body! Good luck Martha.

Martha, I hope you're feeling a little better by now - physically and emotionally! Lots of these folks have way more knowledge than me and have some good ideas.

      Good luck tomorrow!

Sounds like the area is super irritated. Is it inflammed?

DId you tell your doc about the Estrace burning?

Where do you apply it - same area as the Clob?

Maybe a nice warm sitz bath with a little baking soda would feel good.

I use a vaginal cream called Bee Friendly and its really soothing. I get it on Amazon. I apply some to a small cotton pad circle and fold it lightly into my vaginal area when I feel "pinchy" down there. It separates the tissue nicely.

Do any of you use Estrace or Premarin? Seems like articles ive read don't mention that. I'm 74 i feel for younger women with this disease! I will see the dr im the morning and tell her how painful the Estrace is. Thank you all for listening.

    martha,

I never used Estrace as the cost was well over $300 a tube with my "wonderful" Medicare specific insurance. My gyn sent a prescription to a compounding pharmacy where the cost to make it up was around $80. After a while I noticed that it became somewhat irritating so I now take a break from it every 3rd or 4th night (I'm supposed to use a little nightly). My gyn said the carrier cream is often the problem and what I was doing was fine. When I discussed the problem with the pharmacist she said I was already using the least reactive base cream with no preservatives. (A commercial brand like Estrace is bound to have preservatives).

My new insurance covers Estrace ($36), but I still have a tube of the compounded cream to use. I don't look forward to having to use the commercial brand, and expect to just use it less often to avoid more irritation. I have added a yin oil which is olive oil based with hormone like ingredients. No bad reaction to that.

I was using a milder type of steroid which was working fine...until it didn't. Now using clob and find that also is irritating. I mix that with vaseline or coconut oil (both recommended by my gyn).

I think we are all winging it according to what our bodies can tolerate. Like you, I also get a sore spot on one side. I don't think gynecologists have any answers beyond what we are doing. I'm trying to gather as much info as possible on platelet plasma injections (I posted info on it). Finding a doc who gives them for this purpose is the biggest challenge, but I see no other option. I don't want to helplessly wait for things to get worse. Changing my diet and taking supplements has done nothing that I can tell.

Martha, Why can’t the doctor just keep you on the one cream? I personally think that by mixing those two together it is thinning out your skin and breaking it. Talk to the doctor and see if you can remain on that one cream clob.
