New potential GERD diagnosis

ive had a persistent cough for 5 weeks and occassionally when i cough too much i suddenly get alot of spit and cannot ztop swallowing, my body does automatically. i cant catch my breath or it feels like im choking. it only lasts about 30secs. several times ive woken suddenly in the night with it without coughing. its quiet scary. this was enough for my gp to put me on metoclopramide (is anyone taking it?) ive got a xray and bloods booked to rule out anything else. i dont feel like i have acid reflux? i remember that when i was pregnant and ive had absolutely nothing like that. i do get discomfort in the centre of my stomach under my breast bone. ive had this for years but it comes and goes. i can have months with nothing then i get it constantly for several days. i havent had that sensation for the 5 weeks ive had my cough and spit swallowing! my throat is slightly hoarse and i does feel like theres a lump or specifix sore spot at the back of my mouth. my throat feels fine. does anyone else experience similar? i dont smoke im at an ok weight. does anyone else with a gerd diagnosis have no noticable acid reflux?

anyone? im panicking im alone with this! does nobody else get episodes in the night where they struggle to breath? its for less than a minute then im left thinking what the heck was that!? because i can breath absolutely normally again. its just happened again now, waking up suddenly and i cant breath and was the worst ive had it. i was gasping for air. it cant be in my esophagus because i could swallow and gulp down some water (i dont no why i always reach for a drink think it gives me something to do when im panicking that i cant breath!) tonight has been different because after this episode i definitely had a very sour taste in my mouth. i could also taste blood and when i spat it was ever so slightly pink. ive got my bloods and xray in the morning i just want a diagnosis as this is all so worrying.

hi, did you get any answers on this? what you describe sounds like reflux... did you raise the end if your bed to help? i'm still waiting on tests to hopefully give me a diagnosis. my abdomenal pains are bad they then start reflux/ indigestion and heartburn. its so frustrating and i can tell you feel the same...

yes its SO frustrating im sorry youre going through this too. my bloods were fine and the xray. ive found out the nighttime breathing episodes are called laryngospasms. i literally cannot breath for up to a minute and just wake gasping its petrifying! however ive been sleeping on 4 pillows and taking a zantac at bedtime and this has stopped them at night! im still getting a persistent cough and sore throat so will go back to the doctor next week as im still without a proper diagnosis.
