New record for most surgeries, which has ruined my life.

Hi to all, I just wanted to know if there is anyone who has had aa many surgeries as I have, please don't think I am boasting about it as after the 2nd operation I lost all my sense of humor.

I have just had my 16th and probably a 17th by the end of the week due to infection. I have had many surgeons try many procedures, including a rotational flap repair. The side effects have mounted to be a problem as well as I suffer greatly with anger, anxiety, depression, insomnia and so on and working is an impossibility due to dressing changes and medication. It has been open and infected for 8 years now so anyone else had this many problems?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I forgot to Tell you that you should go to a colorectal surgeon and ask if that doctor can put you a VAC machine on the wound area, this will speed up healing(dont let the word machine scare you it doesnt hurt). Wish you the best.

I have had a a vacuum dressing on twice before and that wasn't too successful. I was under the care of colorectal for 4 years before being passed to the plastic surgery department, they failed at 3 procedures, quite spectacularly as well. My surgeon then failed to show up for 3 outpatients appointments in a row, so I complained and now I am back under the care of colorectal again. Thanks for the reply by the way, I am just trying to find someone else in the same boat as me, it seems to be quite a small boat as well.

The VAC is great if you use silver dressing because it has anti bacterial properties. If you are stuck with the same colorectal doctor you should go to another hospital and Get a new colorectal surgeon.

I had the silver dressings twice along with the Vac. I can't really change surgeons as there is only one that is willing to operate on me as me and my MP are waiting to hear back from a formal complaint and other surgeons have refused to treat me. Changing hospitals was an option but due to my location there isn't a viable way of doing it as I can barely sit down and the next hospital is a long journey. I have had every suggestion possible from nurses and such and none have even made any difference.

I know everything seems like a dead end. I went through 3 surgeries and the pain was tough, I thought no one could help me but trust me everything will turn out at some point. I hope your doctors help you this time. Mine put me on IV antibiotics one month before operating, she said something about making the infection smaller so she could see better and take everything out.

I must get back to work right now but keep going strong.

I'm not sure it will ever go away. It's come to the point where if I can make it small enough so it doesn't leak much I would be willing to live with it. I have the feeling my hospital know that they haven't handled my condition very well, and as a result more than one Doctor has taken a step back from treating me. This is my life.

That happened to me at the first hospital. When I changed hospitals , my new doctor healed me completly.
