New Surgical Techniques for Bunions Feb 2020

Posted , 7 users are following.

I looked into having bunion surgery around 2014 (and have wanted it for much longer!) but was recommended a Lapidus procedure and didn't go through with it, primarily due to my work schedule at the time and health insurance issues, as I live in the US.

Recently a friend told me that there are newer surgical techniques with much easier recovery, and sent me a link about Percutaneous sugery at the HSS in NYC, where I live. However, it seems like there are a lot of techniques that are described as "percutaneous" or "minimally invasive," and some of them, such as SERI, seem to get a lot of criticism. However it seems like much of the literature is either written for doctors, like, I can't understand it and I'm a professor in a non-medical scientific field, or super simplified to the point that it seems like a scam (never feel pain! be walking in no time!).

Has anyone had experience with newer surgical techniques? If so, which ones, and what was your recovery like?

    Hi Sam!

I had keyhole surgery in April 2019 (both feet at the same time). I only had pain on the 2nd day after surgery, after that it was mainly discomfort and swelling. I had to wear the surgically shoes for 7 weeks but I was allowed to weight bear right after surgery. Getting back to normal shoes and walking properly took my a while.

No regrets, I love my new feet!!!!

It's very important that you find a good surgeon!

I had my feet done in Brisbane (Australia) by Greg Sterling.

    I hope this helps.

i had bunion surgery 35-37 yesrs ago. the procedure at that time was orthoscopic.

had this done on both. if you research orthoscopic surgery for bunions you will fimd it is no longer done on bunions and i'm one of

    the fallouts from that procedure.

not only do they scrape the bone but cut ligaments, tendons, and anything else in that area. a life if pure hell. u cant walk correctly which has caused knee problems, hip problems, pelvic shifts and sacrum twists.

they probably think that no one remember s that disasterious procedure but i do. a life of hell is what it gave me. you are better off getting the tried and true that they have done that works. dont be a ginny pig and a statistic
