New SVT patient with questions about general anesthesia for surgery (unrelated)

I was diagnosed with SVT last summer after wearing a monitor for 2 weeks. I feel fine and barely have had any symptoms ever, just a feeling once a week or so that i missed a beat. But my primary referred me to cardiologist based on that, and suddenly I have new worries.

I'm scheduled for an unrelated non-heart surgery soon and will be under general anesthesia for 2 or 3 hours. Does SVT impose extra risk for the surgery? My cardiologist is going to stress test me soon to assess that risk, and the surgical team will be made aware, but in my reading of this discussion group i have not run across any discussions of anybody having surgery, other than the ablation for SVT. Was it a concern? Did it trigger anything?

Thanks all.

I dont have a typical SVT i have atrial tachycardia and i had an incessant heart rate of 130 for years which has caused cardiomyopathy and heart failurei was an inpatientt at the time so i dont know if this will differ for you but i needed an assisted miscarriage surgery (nowhere near as long as your surgery) but they did put me under general anesthetic due to it being less stress on my heart rhan being awake. i also had the surgery in the cardio thorassi c theatre incase i needed any support for my heart. my surgery was low risk so they will probably need to determine how risky your surgery is then factor in your heart condition and make the decision from there but im sure they will do something similar if they think its necessary for you to have heart specialists on standby

Thank you! I don't think my surgery is normally considered dangerous, just lengthy. My heart otherwise checks out OK, and i have never had my heart race. I was really surprised to hear the diagnosis of SVT after the 2-week monitor. I will ask about the availability of support in case of problems.. I hadn't thought of that, thanks.
