I'm a 55 yr old woman that was just told that I have a-fib, I have chest and back pain and I'm so scared.  I'm very scare of going on blood thinners and I hear so many bad things about it, if you get in an accident they can't stop the bleeding.  I was wonder if anyone has any take on this. Can this get better and will is it possible to feel normal again? thank you

I have permanent AF and two cardioversions did not work. I take Warfarin, Bisoprolol and Perindopril (for blood pressure). I talked to my GP about trying Apixaban and we decided to keep me on Warfarin for the moment. Blood tests are a nuisance but I don't work so no time problem, and Apixaban has no antidote as has been mentioned, whereas with Warfarin they give you Vitamin K to stop bleeding. I wear a medicalert band. Might switch to Apixaban when an antidote is released. You just get used to taking pills so don't be frightened - it's just a bore. As my GP says, there are so many other things I could have that would be far worse!  (Can't believe they still give aspirin for AF, it's of hardly any use.)

My cardio is giving me baby asprin and said the new blood thinners wouldn't be good for me because I have mitral valve prolaspe, so I would have to go on warfarin instead.  I do work so do keep going back to have test would be difficult.  Not sure what to do at this point.

Hummm that's interesting cause I have mitra valve prolapse too and I was on the new generation blood thinner Xeralto before and after my second ablation without any problems. Geez I wish these doctors would get things straight. Did you doctor say why you couldn't take it? Now I'm wondering who's doctor is right.

The NOAC makers all tell me that they are contra indicated for me as I have a tissue aoortic valve. The cardiologist all say that being Gods they can over ride that but I stick to my guns.

I'm reading that asprin does very little.  He didn't say just said I could use warfain but not the newer drugs.  I see him again in a month.  He's an older doctor that i hear that everyone goes to (other doctors) for answers, but I not sure he has this right.  The reason i asked the question to start the blog was the ER doctor that I saw when I first went into A-Fib said be careful if they put you on blood thinners.  I kind of feel I'm in a no win situation.  I reading more and more evereone seems to be on them, I wondering if I should be also.
