Hi ,i was diagnosed with Asthma at age 42 ,then bronchietis ( due to smoking ) they seem to put all lung conditions under one umbrella ,like a tree with different branches ,that's how it was explained to me ,

Hi I had asthma for many years then my asthma nurse told me I was heading towards copd.  Stupidly I still haven't stopped smoking though....am working on it.  In the UK generally only emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis come under copd,  because they are both irreversible and the treatments are the same and aimed at relief of symptoms not a cure.   Asthma is not an irreversible or progressive disease and can be completely controlled by meds.

Asthma doesn't 'become' copd but it can morph into copd as well.  So even though I have copd I still have asthma.  It can be hard to distingish which causes what symptoms though.  x
