I've been suffering with menieres since 2008, was diagnosed in 2009. Since 2010 I've not had many attacks, but this year I've had two bad attacks. I've now had this one for 5 weeks, I've taken my usual betahistine, which I increased the dosage, but they haven't helped, my doctor has now put me on cinnarizine, but these are making me feel worse at the moment, my headache and neck pain have returned. I know everyone's symptoms differ, but my main thing is the pulsating tinnitus, I've got it in both ears, I can amble about, very slowly, but when I walk, looks like I've had a few drinks, unfortunately I've not !!!! I'm pleased I've found this site, it helps to see what everyone else is going through too, as not many people understand menieres.

Hi Mel17082, yes you are right about this site, i have been looking for answers for mths but unfortunately haven't found the answer yet, but it is good to talk to people who experience the same issues, as you said people who don't have the condition don't understand.....i was told yesterday by a friend that they had Vertigo/Menieres and that they put theirs down to Simvastatin for high cholesterol..which i am taking, so trying to leave off them for a while to see if anything improves

Steve34717 - interesting you brought up the Simvastatin because I take one everynight before going to bed. I think I'll try every other night and see what that does to my Meniere's. Thanks for the heads up!

Cinnarizine is merely an anti-nausea drug and will do nothing for the underlying problem.
You did not say what dose of betahistine you are taking. Once I got the dose high enough (64mg tds) it stopped my problem completely, reduced my tinnitus level and there was some hearing recovery in the affected ear. If it comes back I have been told by my consultant to increase the dose further if necessary to regain control.
Some sufferers also develop BPPV so it would be worth asking your specialist about that too!
Good luck.

I was taking 3 x 16mg betahistine, the doctor said can double it, which I did. I have not seen a consultant since 2009, at the moment just under the doctor, but she is the ENT specialist at the surgery. I'm back at the surgery Wednesday, so will see what's recommended next.

I was away a few weeks before this attack, but not before the other attack. I've followed a low salt etc diet, since I was diagnosed too. Looks like at the moment it's going to be trial and error to get it under control again.
