New to high Bp

Hi all,

I havent had bp checked for years .

But just last week, suffering from headaches for a while, went to the doc and turned out bp was 200/112!!

he took again and it had come down a bit but I monitor it now at home and still around the 148/100 mark.

Ive totally given up caffeine, alcohol, processed foods and am eating super healthy and walking more.

Should i go on meds and if so will I then be on for life, really want to avoid this if possible.

Did anyone else completely change their diet / exercise and have their bp come down to normal without meds of any kind?

I had been drinking more than i should have the weeks before the headaches as well as not exercising, sleeping and a bit stressed. Hoping by making all these changes it might get back to a normal level. thanks, J

200 is very critical. I personally had a bleed in the brainstem at 240. I had no warnings except from a few headaches. So please take it serious.

My advise would be to take the pills now. If or when your blood pressure drops below 120/80. You can start to reduce the meds.

After my incident my blood pressure was stable at just below 140/90 on 20mg Corodil and 10mg Amlodipine. I am from Denmark where we don't use medicine to treat below 140/90.

I changed my diet to keto. It has been very effective on my blood pressure. I am now in the normal range on 2.5mg of Amlodipine. I expect to get fully of meds and have a blood pressure below 120/80 within a few months.

Lifestyle changes takes time. With a blood pressure above 180. You might not have that much time. You are in high risk for a stroke. Now is the time to listen for your doctor.
