New to Lichen Sclerosus

After 6 years of visiting my gp regarding painful intercourse and cuts I finally got diagnosed with LS today at the age of 24. My gp has referred me to a gynaecologist which will take around 3-6 months I'm just looking for advise on what will happen when I see the gynaecologist? I've been given Cetomacrogol to use daily when washing and Dermovate Ointment 0.05% to use daily for a month then to use every second night. The gp did mention that my entrance is narrow and i have a lot of skin covering it which is causing the cuts during sex, I was hoping someone else has had this issue and if there is any way of it becoming less painful?

27 year old here with LS. I'm sorry to read it took 6 years of you visiting your GP - I can relate to that as it took years (but less than yours) for my GP to take me more seriously and stop telling me it was thrush.

In my my first gynaecologist appointment - she examined me (with someone else in the room observing too) and she was unsure initially because of my age for LS. I eventually had a biopsy to confirm but they did say that they were hesistant to do that due to age. She recommended dermovate daily at first for month then reduced to every other day and then reducing further and acqueous cream for washing so sounds pretty similar to what your GP has told you. I found the steroid cream stung at first if i put it on whilst there were cuts but I persisted and it definitely helped the itching. I still use it now a year later about once a month when I start feeling an itch.

For cuts during sex, I also had this due to narrowing entrance and was recommended by the gynaecologist to get some dilators. It took a while to be honest for me to progress on them, and when I moved up in size in dilators they occasionally caused a tear again too, but there is hope as I'm finally able to have pain free sex with no cuts afterwards! I've kept up use of the dilators as I've noticed it being painful again and tearing slightly after I stop using them for a few weeks. There are also some positions which are still a no go for it and I can't work out why!
