Hi all. first off that sucks. I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis 2 months ago and have been hospitalized 3 times. my major problem at the moment is the obvious pain, but also serious fatigue, weight loss and trouble going to the bathroom. the toilet situation is the worst at the moment. any advice on how to go and keep it regular. thanks in advance everyone!

HI im 5 years with CP on morphine so i get constipated . so the doctor prescribed laxitives . see your doctor or pancreas consultant . when you have any problems . Theres a group on facebook called acute and chronic pancreatitis support you will get a lot of answers about CP On there they have plenty of experience about this Good luck

have been there. Actually just out of it. As long as you are on pain killer and IV for nourishment not much happening. When less pain killers and liquid diet foid your body will start working. What helped was walking around the hospital corridors with my IV on wheels . 2 or 3 times a day . Hope you get some relief.

corinne82 I am on pain killers and mostly liquid. I know we are all different but does the pain subside enough to stop pain killers?

Have been in hospital yet or you just try to care for it by yourself at home? Had so far 4 acute pancreatitis. once I stayed home as the pain was not terrible , I stayed on broth with crackers and some bread and jello for one week. It got slowly better , after week I went to MD who told me I had gastritis, told him NO it's nit so we did blood panel for enzymes and sure enough came back flagged. I continued my diet fir few days and eventually pain went away and was fine. If pain is too much go to ER you might have to stay frvfew days on IV.

Make sure you have no fever. Yes it takes time depending of the severity of the attack. Hope this helps and courage

    hey all,

how long does it take for a flare up to start? think I ate something wrong and I started feeling it within half hour. has lasted 18 hrs so far. not crippling but is quite painful and am quite fatigued at the moment. is this normal?

i believe every time I had acute pancreatitis it went over several weeks of not digesting well, light pains behind stomach area , bloated and tired. I should have put myself on a strict diet of broth and crackers but I didnt and eventually it suddenly got very very painful

and had to gonto ER . Last one happened after ERCP and sphincterioctomy . Try to go on little food and not much drink see if it goes away but if ggetting worse you must gonto ER .

sorry to hear you are in ER . Did they do blood work to see your enzymes levels? Pancreatic enzymes measured are Lipases and Amylases levels, if high it is Pancreatitis and they ll keep u as they should. They probably did other tests, CTScan and biliary test fr yr liver. I hope you are ok and they ll take good care of you.

yes I have had many tests and my lipase was way high. so I am still here. they will be putting a stent in my pancreas next week as it is spitting enzymes into my body cavity which is the major contributor of the pain right now

I was told if I had constipation problems to take Mira Lax & you can try Milk of Magnesia. It helped me.

Does pancreas problems cause constipation bc I have it & am blaming it onto a bowel obstruction. The worse for me is drinking water. It burns my stomach. Do you have that symptom? I see a Pancreas specialist next week at the Mayo Clinic.

hi. I get constipation from the pain killers I am on. Dilaudid. I have no problem drinking water or fluids. you need as much hydration as you can get. bring up that issue with your doc

pain killers in pills and Dilaudid might get u constipated but if you are on IV for hydration and food (glucose) you have nothing to evacuate soits normal nothing happens there. Even after my acute pancreatitis (8 days in hospital) I had problems but after fruits and some water ( not too much) I was fine .
