New to Sertraline

I just need some advice really, I have been prescribed Sertraline 50mg by my doctor as I have been feeling like my head is all over the place and I am struggling to control my thoughts and emotions and feeling very anxious and nervous.

I got my prescription 3 days ago but havent been able to bring myself to take the first tablet as im just not convinced if it is going to help me.

After spending a few hours reading through hundreds of discussions and replys alot of people seem to be experiencing bad side effects and feeling even more anxious.

Is it worth trying this medication or is it best to just ride it out through will power?

Hope someone can help me.

    Hi Lucy

I would say definitely don't take the drugs. I've had a terrible time with them and am having an awful time withdrawing from them too. The drugs could make you feel a lot worse than you do now.

I hope I don't sound negative, I just want to save you from going through what I am.

Things like CBT or counselling would be much better.

    good luck

Hi Lucy, it is worth trying, it helped me a lot but I wouldn't  stay on it for years. I don't remember having bad side effects when I first started it. The hard part was getting off after 15 yrs. Good luck to you, that is not a real high dose.

Hello, I would never tell you not to take the meds a doctor prescribed. I have had anxiety, panic attacks at 2 seperate times in my life. I didn't take anything the 1st time because I was afraid & thought I could do on my own. The 2nd time, I didn't hesitate. I would never want to not have some aide if available. Your doc has prescribed something he feels will help you. Remember it takes time to take effect, so don't wait too long. Do you have a follow-up appointment with your doctor? Were you able to talk to your doctor about your concerns?

    Whatever you decide, good luck.

    Hi Lucy

if the doctor has prescribed them then I would try them.  I have been on Setraline for seven weeks and I think it is beginning to kick in.  I did feel worse to start with and had side effect of feeling sickly but that soon went.  Everyone is different so I would give it a go.  Good luck Sue
