Hi guys,

This is my first time posting in the IBS section of Patient.info but I have "suffered" with IBS for near enough a decade (was only diagnosed 18 months ago though).

I have always had a "dodgy" stomach but it's gotten considerably worse over the past few years - this culminated in me seeing a Gastroenterologist early last year due to severe abdominal pain (right side) as well as really erratic bowel movements - I went for a colonoscopy & endoscopy - all came back clear but the diagnosis of IBS was made (and it made total sense after years of having all the tell tale symptoms!)

Over the past month I have been experiencing the same right side pain but it's moved to lower in my abdomen, it moves from front to back (or back to front) and is worse when I am sitting up - I have been to see my GP and they seem to think it's muscular. I have also noticed my stomach is making a lot of noise recently & that I am going to the toilet a lot more since the pain started. I also feel like I need to urinate more (even though I dont actually need to go) and just generally feel unwell from my chest downwards.

I am just looking for advise from other IBS sufferers - is this something you've experienced? It may well be a muscular issue that I initially started experiencing and I have become anxious subsequently and that has had a knock on affect with my IBS - just keen to find out if anyone else has had a similar set of symptoms/whether it was attributed to IBS.

Any advice would be most welcome, thanks in advance!

P.s. Male - 33 years old - on no medications/do not have any other helath issues.

im not a doctor. but the urinary symptoms and side pain, have they done blood work or

checked your kidneys? bladder?prostate? can cause some issues too. but if its

more urinary issues. along with some stomach discomfort, perhaps you have ibs and some other things going on.

how is your stress level? stress can flare up ibs badly as im sure you are aware. but can do other odd things to ur body. im a 35 male, and when im super stressed i get urinary urgency, always feeling like i need to go, weird things going on

You are describing typical, IBS symptoms which can change over time and pain typically moves about the abdomen. It doesn't sound muscular. IBS tends to be in the lower abdomen. No one person is the same with IBS but a key hallmark of the condition is shifting abdominal pain along with anxiety. Your best bet is to take antispasmodics or painkillers and try to stay as calm as possible because anxiety will make your symptoms considerably worse. Remember, your doctor has diagnosed IBS.

It is a pity doctors don't explain symptoms to patients when they are first diagnosed unless they are asked to. If they did, many of us wouldn't be so anxious and wouldn't need so many GP appointments.

hey everything your describing is IBS, i was recently diagnosed with IBS and learning alot about my symptoms too but IBS does make u feel unwell, tired, urinating frequently, anxiety, depression and the list can go on do still have your dr do a full kidney test and urine test though just to make sure, i suffer from dry eye issues and i personally believe its because of IBS because i do all these test and nothing is found and this started exactly when i started having IBS symptoms so alot can go on in the body when there is a flare up.
