New to the forum, doctor believes I have IBS, just after some feedback.

Good evening everyone, I am 37 year old male who has been struggling with bloating, nausea, lack of appetite and diarrhea for roughly 26 months now on a daily basis off and on, but no stomach pains or cramps. I have also lost around 7lbs in weight which i put down to lack of appetite and not eating very well. I have had numerous blood tests done as well as stool and urine samples which have all come back clear. I just cant seem to ease my symptoms and was wondering if anyone else has had the same symptoms.

I am normally fit and well conducting 3 lots of physical training sessions a week. I don't smoke and I rarely drink alcohol.

My GP believes my symptoms are IBS related but has booked me in to see a gastroenterologist to be on the safe side. Looking at having a colonoscopy or endoscopy dependant on the gastroenterologist consultation on Monday next week.

My symptoms make me emotional stressed which i have read that doesn't help with IBS but its hard not get stressed when you or the GP cannot pinpoint your symptoms nor diagnose accordingly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

hi dave, i think this does seem at first glance but then i thought weight loss? can i ask a key question and this is it: since you have lost weight have you felt ill after eating anything bread or milk related at all? then it leads me to say what about other problems like is your bowel either hard or soft, does stress cause pain when using the toilet, have you had mouth ulcers, do you end up being sick after milk, cheese butter etc? you need to know more in other words. it could be ibs, it may not be! i have coeliac disease, gluten does damage to my bowel. i didn't know until i had a camera and biopsies. ask for as much detail as you can, see a dietician if it is IBS and they might give you a diet to help you. if it's coeliac disease or milk intolerance then the diet may not help. the other thing to consider is it an allergy? when you have certain foods does you breathing go strange, are you sick and does your tongue tingle? these are allergy signs all very different from IBS.

Sam, many thanks for the reply.

Not really felt ill after eating anything breaded or milk.

My bowel is soft with no pain when using the toilet. No mouth ulcers nor do i feel sick straight after milk, cheese or butter.

I was tested for coeliac disease (blood test) and my GP said it came back clear so they ruled it out, thats not say that my endoscopy might find something.

I did look into allergies but none of the symptoms matched.

How are you getting on with your diagnosis?

hi Dave, i think by answering these questions you have answered what you have. this does sadly sound like IBS. you need therefore to see a dietician and ask about an elimination diet. stress is a huge factor in IBS. write down what you eat and whether anything in particular gives you symptoms. good luck.
