New to the group with a lump

Posted , 6 users are following.

I am a 38 year old single mother of a 2 year old and a 7 year old.  I have major health anxiety and a bad habit of poking and prodding myself.  Well, yesterday, i was poking and found a lump in my left breast.  Its on the underside.  If i lay down and put my left arm behind my head and check, it comes up.  i think it feels like bone.  I literally ran to the doctors office and saw a woman who did a breast exam.  She felt it but said it moves and was sending me for an ultrasound this coming week.  I said should i be  worried.  she said no but lets rule everything out.  Naturally, now i am TERRIFIED.  i cant sleep.

    Hi Laurie

Sorry to hear what you are going through right now and I hope it all turns out ok for you. Naturally you will be worried, it's not an easy thing to deal with uncertainty. However, it might help to know that a majority of breast health issues especially lumps don't turn out to be anything sinister at your age. It doesn't mean you are not at risk, it just means you are at a much lower risk than say women over 50 as 80% of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50. There are so many non-cancerous conditions of the breast and lumps mainly turn out to be benign in your age range.

All the best, try to keep yourself busy until you find out as it may help keep your mind off things or not too focused on it.

    Xx

P.s the best thing you have done is that you have the ball rolling now to find out what it is. All the best X

I only weight 108 pounds and stand at 5'6.  I was hoping she was feeling something else.  I am able to feel ribs in my breasts because of my thin build.  Would a breast lump be at the bottom of the breast, in the fold area?  Its almost like where breasts are attached to the wallof my body, if that makes any sense.

It does make sense. I never used to check my breasts but when I did I found a small hard area which seemed to feel like a lump but not as defined just where my ribcage and lower part of breast kind of meet but I realised this was just part of my anatomy.

Lumps can occur on any part of the breasts, under arms and even below the collarbone area. Some can be due to hormonal changes (menstruation) and some because of other breast disease or conditions. On the plus side you have age on your side because like I said the risk is much lower, however you have reported it so hopefully you should be able to find out soon what it is or whether it's hormone related. Xx

I know how you feel, I found 2 lumps in my right breast last April. My mam was ill @ the time(she had breast cancer) and I couldn't tell her. Went to docs and was referred to specialist and she sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound scan I had pain the breast(thankfully) the docs said they were cysts. So doc said painfull lumps are good. So it's a very good idea to get checked out . If u need to talk please don't hesitate to leave me a msg. Liz

The only other thing i did notice is that sometimes it feels like a squishy flat grape if that makes any sense.  my whole breast hurts but i also have rib issues with intercostal neuritis and lifting my nearly 40 pound 2 -1/2 year old doesnt help that along  I thouight i read though too that pain in the breast is a good sign.  she only felt the one lump in there too.  I PRAY with eveyrthing i have this is nothing.  I will take a cyst or benign anything.  and what do they most are benign

Painful lumps Is a very good sign, I've got pain in both my breasts and also lumps ( which are just cysts) the doc said I've got to keep an eye on them lol.  It is best to get this checked out, if you are on a waiting list, the only thing that I did was to put my name on a cancellation list any time, if you've been refered to a specialist, phone his/her sec, and ask how long the waiting list is.  Tell her how worried you are and that you've got a 2 1/2yr old, and that you got to sort this out asap.  If the specialist sends you for a mamogramm ultrasound, then get yr name on their cancellation lists as well, I was told to do this by a lady (doc) who had breast cancer, she is well now and living in dorset'. You do anything to get yourself seen sooner so that you can put your mind at rest.  If you need to talk either on here or leave me a message.  I do know how worried you are,  and if you want me to I'll pray for you .

I know exactly how you feel,  back last year I found 2 lumps in my left breast,  they are painful. (which is a good sign.  ). As I found out they are cysts.   My doc refered me to a specialist, saw her and had a mamogramm also a ultrasound, and was told they are cysts,  if she is sending you for a ultrasound etc, and you haven't got an appointment, phone the booking office and get your name put onto their cancellation list etc.  The sooner that your checked out the better, if you need to talk leave me a message on here or inbox me ok.  Liz.

Hey Liz. I'm a 20 year old and I've seen you post on here several times so maybe you can help me out? My breasts are quite lumpy so I can hardly tell if there are any new lumps in them but there is one spot on my left breast that hurts every now and then if I push down on it. I haven't yet associated it with my period because my period is so irregular. Also, my aereola on my left breast doesn't really have a round shape. The bottom gets warbley around the edge but other than that, no dimples or swelling or redness or anything. My boyfriend said my nipple has always looked like that but I've never noticed. I have anxiety and freak myself out over it often and I'm trying to schedule an appointment but I have no health insurance so its hard to in the U.S. I was wondering if you had any insight? Also, prayers would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Hi. Have you got a walk in medical centre where you are? It's good that your boyfriend hasn't noticed any change, the lump that you can feel is prob. A cyst, as it's painful that's a good sign also. Stop feelin it as it will make yr nerves worse, and don't look up yr symptoms on a well known site. If u need to

Talk msg me ok and I'll pray for you

Could also be due to you not being regular with your periods as your only 20.

I didn't go Jaime... In all honesty, I do not and had not regularly checked my breasts until that day.  I've checked regularly since and everythhing i feel i think is normal findings for me.  one breast is definitely lumpier than the other but i was not going to drive myself insane over it.  nothing is rock hard or fixed.  feels like flat squishy grapes or lumpy oatmeal.   How abot you?
