Morning Paul, welcome to the forum (better by far than any other I have come across). 😀 If you have questions ask away, some of us have had to deal with this illness for many years, we can listen, advise, commiserate with you when necessary.
The first thing is - don’t panic! At first it seems it will be the end of how we used to live. That’s not true. Find an excersise patern that suits you - Arthritis Uk has an excercise sheet to download. Walk as far as you can - even if it is only 10 minutes, but don’t forget it’s also 10 minutes to walk back!! Eat sensibly, others will be along to advise about that.
Good luck.

Hey
I have suffered arthritis for 3 year. I know what the pain is like in knee's and swelling. I have had 6 operations in these 3 years to try and lesser the pain. I would say 4 out of the 6 surgeries l have had have majorly helped but the other 2 have left me with residual pain but l have not given up. I was a normal size 42 year old when it started and because of my arthritis l have gained a lot of weight. I know this is not helping my situation but l have even cut what l eat a day to the minimum. My body just cant cope with exercise. I try and never give up to fight through the pain and hope one day l will not be as much of a burden to my husband. He does not see it as a burden and does everything he can to help me. Although l try to do most things myself. There was a time l thought there was no coming back from this but at 45 l decided l am not giving up. I hope to get a bit of my life back and freedom to move about without as much pain. I hope this happens. So l think you have to find out the issue or have you already? And figure out if you want to help yourself and your partner to get through it. It's hard l know and l gave up for a long time but my head became clear and l know l must try for however long l have left to live. If you need any advice on knee replacements l can help l have had both mine done do feel free to ask anything.

Your welcome and l know your. I had bother with knee's a long time even when l was in my 20's l can remember 1 used to feel as if it came out of place a lot and l ended up on the floor in so much pain. I was always afraid of it happening. I was so young and fit to that it scared me. Then as l got older the grinding started in both knees but l started off with severe pain in my groin. I though it was just a pulled mucsle or ligament. I had just turned 42 and was a walker. My husband and l enjoyed walking as exercise so we would do a walk everynight for miles. That stopped. I went to doctor and he said it was just a muscle and sent me away with painkillers. It never got better just worse so l returned and was sent for xrays. What they told me the next week shocked me as l was not expecting it. I had to have 2 hips replaced as l has Osteoarthritis. I was so upset as l thought it was odd being so young. But it was not until l joined this forum that l realised l was not alone. This forum helped me through. I have had both knee's replaced now to. I would say it helped and 1 knee is brilliant but the other is not so great. Its not strong. It gives me a lot of residual pain. I dont think it will ever be any better but l can't say that for sure as l have not exercised very much.
Good luck

I think you have to get it seen to my friend as the longer you leave it the worse it will get. I would get some xrays done if you can and find out exactly whats going on. It may be that you need to face surgery in the future as l know if l did not l would be in a wheelchair now. I am not far off the state of being that way. I can walk about the lenth of a supermarket but l struggle and everyone can clearly see l am parcially disabled. I can still drive but only go out once a week. I spend most of time at home. I am currently trying to come of pain medication and having a hard time. But l have to try as l have been on them 3 years straight. I am not sure what country you live or how your medical system works but l hope you get the oppertunity to get help as don't keep suffering it ends up unbearable.
See ya pauluk
