New to this group

Hello everyone. I am new to this group but not new to fibro. I have suffered for the last 20 years, since before it was recognised fully as a condition. I have recently been diagnosed with hypermobility syndrome which according to recent studies is a common overlap with fibro. Thankfully my gp specialises in both so I am currently on a complete review of meds etc. I also had a hysterectomy a year ago at the age of 44 and a heart attack at 42. My menopause has caused a flare up of the fibro but I'm limited in meds because of my heart! All in all I'm having a lovely time right now playing medication roulette lol. I take an anti- depressant for the fibro aswell as indometacin suppositories but am allergic to many pain killers so thats about it. I only had paracetamol after my hysterectomy which was not fun. Sorry Ive gone on so long but wanted to paint an accurate picture of where I am right now.

Hi, what caused your heart attack? I had minu strokes due to a medication that was banned shortly after my attacks, it was vioxx. It was the only thing that ever helped with my pain, ironically!

There was never any explanation for the heart attack. I had low cholesterol, low blood pressure, didnt drink alcohol or caffeine, dont smoke and had lost a good amount of weight. An angiogram showed clear arteries. It was deemed one of those things. Unfortunately 2 MRIs showed damage to the heart so I now have to be careful. Also the cardiologist cant guarentee it wont happen again.

Blimey! At least if you knew why it had happened you would know how to be careful! That must be very difficult. I had extremely high cholesterol and triglycerides last year so have to take statins and fenofibrate now. Doc thought I was a heavy drinker but I rarely drink! Also my diet is pretty good, although I do like a chocolate bar a few days a week, I have loads of veg with my main meals which are stir frys, casseroles,, curries, bolognese etc all home made, with extremely little fat and, as I say, loads of veg, especially onions, peppers, tomatoes and celery.

Its very frustrating when you try to be healthy. I am a trained cook so always cook from scratch. I dont like desserts and love fruit and salad. I have to have statins because of my heart so my cholesterol levels are now very low. I was told stress plays a big part and due to a complicated history I do suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. In the end I started having the odd drink as abstaining hadnt done me any good. I stick to red wine and as it helps me relax I justify it that way lol.

I used to love a couple of glasses of red wine every night, rioja! But I havent done that for a few years and now find it difficult even to drink a glass. I had two small measures of amaretto last night, lovely and smooth, but that was the first time I had had an alcoholic drink for ages!
