new to TN

Hi I was diagnosed with trigiminal neuralgia yesterday and put on 100mg of carbamazepine twice a day, my neauralgia is not very bad all the time, but the worst pain is in my ear, I know there is nothing wrong with my ear as the doctor checked yesterday. Has anyone else suffered with earache type pain?

    Hi, sorry to hear your problems, I'm not a doctor and have TN myself., but this doesn't sound like TN to me. Good luck with the treatment

      I forgot to mention with the earache type pain I get left sided face pain which feels weird and hard to describe if I touch it, it's like hot needles also I get shooting pains going across sided of my head above my ear. My face feels slightly numb and different to the other side aswell.

    My TN started with stabbing pains in my ear and the facial pain started a week or so later. Hope the carbamazepine helps

    I am on Tegretol as well. Started at 100mg twice a day like you. It did nothing until I slowly bumped it up to 700mg twice a day. But the side effects along the way have been brutal. However they have calmed a bit and I feel much better. Been on Tegretol since July 11
