I've pretty much cut out sugar and it's helping after a year of dealing with UC, C. diff, CMV which all cause diarrhea.  I suspect I have IBD so maybe that's why cutting out sugar helps.  You might want to try it for a few days and see if it helps.

Sorry to hear especially when u bit older.. Hard to deal with...I have it 25 yrs am now 60...I have been pretty good this year from I started Lepicol with probiotics and psyllium seed .seed is available from just ingredients online...only place I could get it. I take it in ratio of 2:1 it can also be taken 3:1 .2 seeds 1 Lepicol twice a day.Put it in glass of water and let it sit for hour b4 drinking. Top it up with more water if need be. It's quite gel like consistency. I tend to make up glass in morning let it sit a do split it into another glass and it does me in evening again.  There is butyrate available from processing of it. U can google butyrate online and how good it is re uc. I try and avoid sugar ....really bad stuff for uc. I take probiotics ...very good for it ....type in ur symptoms online re a probiotic and c which is best for ur selves. Also do not take psyllium seed drink at any stage when u take meds...can interfere with absorption of tabs.do not take any of those probiotic drinks or yogurts ...usually sugar in them . U can go look up specific carbohydrate diet by elain Gottschall. U get tips from it. Also there r various other people doing variations of it. Fizzy drinks and alcohol r not good either. I find digestive enzymes great but u need to take them specific time b4 food.u can also look up info on sulphur producing foods and uc . It's pretty relevant too. I take lot other supplements too. If u interested bout them let me know. Vit d is very important one u can buy it as form of spray...better absorbed that way. Google it for its benefits. That's bout all I can think of at present. Good luck MJZ

      Hi Maryjo

Thanks for the info i also now take probiotics but have yet to see the results yet. I am going to cut out all sugar products and am watching what i eat via a diary that i write in including how many times to the loo. I bought the proboitics on amazon £16 for 30 tabs a bit expensive but i am going to keep on with them.

Thanks for the reply chat soon i hope

    Hi 2daloo (gr8 name!)

So sorry to read that you're struggling with this horrible disease. I was diagnosed in August and I'm also finding it very difficult to get to grips with although I don't have the frequent trips to the loo anymore. The prednisolone rectal foam worked instantly for me. I used them for a month & then came off them and so far so good. I had my first bought of diarrhoea last night but putting that down to stress as the lat 6 weeks have been pretty unbearable & now my dad was rushed into hospital yesterday with a heart attack so think the stress maybe causing my body to flare again. Not surprised!

Anyway, I digress....I would try asking yr gp for pred foam & after trying several diets including lactose free, gluten free etc, I am now cutting out the food groups which seem to affect us uc sufferers like onions, cabbage, caffeine etc & this seems to be working, well up until last night. You'll certainly know when you've eaten something that doesn't agree with you!

I really hope that things ease up for you soon as I know that flaring can be such a horrible time & can be so debilitating.

Call your gp or consultant - don't put up with this!

    Take care

    Jo

Meanwhile others have said about cutting out sugar which i intend to do! have you any input on no sugar And sorry to hear your dads not well, i also believe UC could be stress related because i get bad when i start to stress out!

The pred foam takes a little while to get used to but I loved the stuff in the end, it cured my horrific bm's so would've done anything at that point! The first time I used it, it stopped them straight away so only used them for a month and then came off them. See ur gp & ask for them, it's a box of prednisolone rectal foam.

I just commented on here about my sugar intake - I use truvia in my de-caf but then find myself eating a biscuit 10 mins later so defeats the object!! So....haven't really properly trialled the sugar free thing yet!!

Let us know how u get on T.

      Lots of love xxx

Good luck with that then!! That's the next thing I'm going to try.

No not really, only used the stuff after a tonsillectomy and lost a lot of weight so needed to drink it to gain weight. Is it being used as a meal replacement then or as well as eating a normal diet?

Always so much to learn with this disease, it certainly keeps us on our toes eh?!

Good luck going sugar free 😩xxx

    Hi,

Ask your doctor about loperamide. This has helped me in the past. I thought lansoprazole made me worse.

I found eating alot of fruit and veg made me worse and spicey food.

    Hope this helps

There are two kinds of fibre in fruits and vegetables.  Soluble and insoluble.  Soluble can help reduce diarrhea while insoluble can make it worse.  Check out which is which on google.
