Hi everyone, I drink on average two bottles of wine a day, maybe twice a week I'll only have the one bottle, my husband is also a big drinker but he is 20 years older than me and I dont think he wants to change, I have my first perscription for Selincro which I collect tomorrow, I was just wondering does it work straight away, does t take a few days to build up in your system. Its really hard as Im a hotelier and our hotel is licensed, its not an excuse but it gos with the territory, I would just like to be able to have one maybe two drinks, not two blooming bottles. Any advice welcome, thank you xx

Hi Jodyanne, I just read a post about a herbal remedy called Kudzu. I am going to search here in my town to see if I can locate some.

It is suppose to take away any cravings for alcohol and the lady who sent it says she no longer had these crazy cravings or for smoking as well....sooooo

Good luck to everybody on here.

Good luck to you too Tim, let us know how you get on if you start with the Kudzu xx

Hi Tim i have researched Kudzu and it helps with alcohol and nicotine cravings i have ordered mine from Amazon

Hi Angie, Very thoughtful of you to ask.

I am still taking the Kudzu and trying to keep myself busy but there are still times that I have a "need" to drink. I'm guessing it might take a little more time to erase 40 + years of drinking...so I'm not going to put any pressure on myself by having overtly high expectations...

And how are you making out with your struggles?

Have you read the excellent post from Paul to andyy33 several hours ago? It really puts things into perspective as far as I'm concerned.

Have yourself a good day, Tim

Hello Jodyanne, I am in excatly the same situation as yourself, drinking two bottles of red a night, I started taking Selinco 8 days ago and have been keeping a blog thing on here of my experiance with the drug. Look at my discussions.

PaulJt1964 is a mine of information and a good bloke to boot, any questions he is the man to ask smile

You can do this, the first week wasnt particually nice but I managed to convince people i was just under the weather.

I will follow you to see how you cope, i find with the support of this forum and the good people on it, it s not such a daunting task.

I dont want to stop completely, just reset my desire / need

    Good luck

      Basil, your comment:

"I dont want to stop completely, just reset my desire / need "

This is my goal as well and I have explained that to my cousellor many times over the years. All he (and my GP) could say was - JUST QUIT...

As I mentioned earlier to Jodyanne, there is a herbal remedy called Kudzu that I am going to try. Will let everybody on here know how I make out...

Hello are you still taking the tablet I am on day five and wondering if these side effects will end I've had naltrexone before and didn't suffer like this

most people say it disappears after a week or so

  • Posted

Like Paul said, Selingro starts working about 1-2 hours after taking it.

You will notice the difference straight away.

However, I don't agree with the expression "some side effects".

The side effects in the first week is strong, very strong.

Now the following, the side effects do wear off and are not stronger than a fix hangover.

Like you I'm working in the hospitality industry (kitchen Chef), our jobs have everything to do with alcohol.

I'm on my 68th pill right now, and my daily intake of alcohol reduced from 28 pints of 8.6% alcohol to 2.

Allready on day one I reduced 20 beers.

The goal you set for yoursellf is for sure acceptable (from two bottles to two glasses)

Just get yoursellf trough the first week.

Does it work, yeah, realy it does.

    Good luck,

The only reason I said 'some side-effects' was that not all people get the same ones and I have known people get them so mildly that they are not bothered at all by them. The nausea and sleep disturbance are most common. The side-effects DO seem to be more common than stated by the report of the clinical trials, though.

But even though I seem to be working my way through all the various symtoms sad its still going to be worth it ..

I hope that im prepared for the first week, bring it on, I can beat it...

I know before when I have gone ''cold turkey'' I cant sleep, sweat a lot and become very anxious, Im looking forward to getting through the first week, thanks for taking the time to reply x

It' was not ment to be critic towarts you Paul, the only thing is, I experienced a whole lot more than just some side efects.

I felt like my body wad being ripped appart, was sweating like a pigg, felt my heartbeat beating like a base drum sound system etc etc.

The things I felt where not just some side efects, and I strongly feel we should mention those.

Are, when I look back, the side effects worth going trough, then I say yes, they are, the do wear off and Selingro still is, to me, proofed to be effective. (If only you get trough those horible first two weeks)

Oh thats one thing Jodyanne, the side effects I did experienced, could come from detoxing alcohol, and maybe have nothing to do with Selingro itsellf.

      We'll find out, don't we.

Keep us updated, the more posts the better ;-)

No, I know it wasn't a criticism, Escargot smile I agreed with what you said and wanted to clarify what i had said smile

Hi there, I posted on here last night with the same problem, although I dont drink everyday, when I do drink, i cant stop. How does selincro work? Does it keep you sober so you think "whats the point, I might as well have a cuppa" or does it make you ill/vomit when drinking on it? I think it would suit me if I popped one say on a Saturday night, so would be no point in drinking.

      None of those, Bopa smile

Many people enjoy drinking alcohol but they are able to keep it under control. Others, like you get extra reward from drinking alcohol, compared to other people. That makes you pre-disposed to getting addicted to alcohol.

The reason for your additional reward is that endorphins are released when you drink. These attach to the opioid receptors in your brain and, for some reason, in the case of some people, the reward is so great that they have much stronger urges to drink than other people.

Selincro blocks these receptors so that the endorphins cannot attach to them so that additional reward is removed. That means that you 'unlearn' your addiction to alcohol and, over a period of time, begin to experience only the same pleasure as other people i.e. the taste, the feeling of being a little merry, but without the desperate need to carry on drinking beyond what you know is sensible for you.

Selincro doesn't stop you getting drunk and it doesn't produce a bad reaction when taken with alcohol, it MUST be used with alcohol to work. If you are not drinking, you don't take a pill that day.

How does it work....I think paul has better responces to explain this to you (I can only speak from my own expieriences, Paul however knows the expieriences from many others)

I was well on the way to stop drinking, but I felt horrible, many times I tried, one time I made it to one full year of abstenence.

During those periodes of non drinking, I turnd out to become a unhappy, misserable old man.

My doctor, said, well If you turn out to be like this, you might aswell eighter keep on going being unhappy and sober or start drinking again.

I tought, what kind of advice is this, did she actualy said I should start drinking again ?

She did, just like Paul say's, Selingro has to be taken WHILE DRINKING !!

She gave me the instruction to get wrecked, drunk and come back tomorow, but when sober, if not sober, she tolld me not to show up at all.

She informed me she did research to a medication I once asked for (Selingro) and was willing to try out this medic on me.

So I did what she told, got drunk, sobered up and went back to her clinic.

The first day, she gave me the medication and gave me the advice to drink a beer in one and half an hour.

I did, I bought the beer........3 o clock in the afternoon, and what happend....3 hours later the beer was still standing next to me...HALF FULL !!!, amazing, normaly I drink a pint an hour or so....

The funny part of Selingro is this, you can drink a beer, you enjoy the taste, but just simply do not have the drive to finish it.

How I feel is so strange, I didn't drink like this, not for a long long time, so long, I couldn'd even remember how it was to be a social drinker.

I was the shock of every social events, from birthday's, Christmas party's, dining with friends, opening of a art expo etc etc...

Now I can stand with a full glass in my hand, and leafe it at the end of the evening, half full behind....

Selingro, it saved my life, my love, my family and my buisiness.

I do have some side efects, in the beginning a lot, now a lot less.

Now I'm standing like this, I DO NOT CARE, all the side effects of the world, I will not stop this medication, not ever.

How about you, feel like trying biggrin
