New vitreous bleeds in eye

Posted , 4 users are following.

Had a big vitreous bleed in my bad left eye on Tuesday.  My consultant saw me quickly on Thursday   He said it was too dreadful and there was too much blood to do anything at the moment. He's done loads of laser in the past and said to just stay with it and it'll clear in a few weeks. I ve a horrible few day and many more little bleeds all over the eye. Do I just ignore this while it sorts itself out. I'm very very scared   Any suggestion. I just need to know if this normal  ???

Have you had a vitreal bleed before?

    Do you have Diabetic Retinopathy?

    It will clear by itself.

Hi Ben. Thanks so much for responding .... Yes I've had a couple of vitreous bleeds in the last year.  I've had loads of laser treatment and was really pleased at my last appointment when the consultant said he didn't want to see me for 3 months !! That was about 5 weeks ago !!!! I know that it'll clear eventually but I still keep getting what I feel are more little spider like bleeds. It's been off and on all day and it really upsets me !!! Do I still just let it settle ??

    Dear Abigailfing

I know from many eye incidents over the years how very distressing and worrying each incident is. A few years ago I changed my optometrist because they no longer provided emergency service (NHS reorganisation).

My rule of thumb as advised by both practices of optometrists is to check with them whenever there is a new incident. They will decide whether or not they should refer you to the eye clinic, or you can just go to the eye clinic without an appointment. The risk of loss of sight is too serious to sweat it out alone. Please take advice. It will reduce your anxiety. That sort of stress is bad for the body and the eyes are an integral part which is affected by the health of the rest of the body. Stress then is unlikely to be good for your eyes.

With my sympathy and best wishes

      Hi George

i took your advice and made another appointment with my consultant .... He again assured that while it very unpleasant I have to 'sit and wait'.  I finf this almost impossible

Every day ........... particularly when I get up I have what I feel are active bleeds   It's really frightening me. My eye is so blurred now I can't really see out of it at all

i had a couple of days last week when I had a clearer corner of vision on the left side and it cheered me up but that's all gone again. Is this 'normal' ?

      its 2 weeks now
