New without a clue!

Hi there. I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. For years I have suffered pain in my wrists but this past year I've had aching pains in my wrists, elbows and shoulders. My lower back aches and travels up my spine. I am constantly exhausted. I sleep well but still feel so tired all day. I have had IBS from a young age also. I feel like everyone thinks I'm a hypochondriac. I'm 28. Have a pretty strenuous job. I've been prescribed paroxetine 30mg (I also suffer anxiety/stress) I do drink a lot (1/2 bottle wine per night. More at weekend) I've recently been advised to stop taking my regular dose of 2 paracetamol/codeine per day as the dr feels I'm becoming dependant and now I am in so much pain. My only relief was my codeine in the morning and wine at night. I feel so stressed out and no one really understands. Sorry for going on but I don't know who to talk to 😞 just looking for advice or confirmation that this is "normal" Thanks x

Headache isn't good for 5 monthsrolleyes. Is it high neckache or headache? I'd be asking for investigations into a headache going on that long!

Mine's the same with my IBS, I get acute stomache pain just before it's about to start.  If I ignore it, it'll get me back a lot worse within a short period of time.  Sometimes I know what's triggered it (sudden stress) other times I haven't a clue. It ain't no winter bug!!!

I told my gp that i have had a headache for this long and he didnt say anything about what it could be he just got on about my saying i think ive got ibs but he added to that it was more of a winter bug. Even though it only flarse up now and then  even  though  my mum says i have ibs as got the same simptoms as she has got as she suffers with ibs

Headaches and IBS I don't think are connected so he shouldn't of ignored your headache symptom.

I phoned my surgery and asked if there was a doctor who specialised in Fibro & ME (I have both).  Cos I didn't feel like the doctor I was seeing had a specilism in it.  It is a specialist area which a doctor has had to choose to research into is understand it and the best ways of helping us.  There was a different doctor in my practice who was specialised in that type of thing.  I now see her every 3 weeks for us to keep altering the meds.

Swop doctors I advise - yours doesn't seem to be listening to you xx

I've had an MRI done earlier this year. All clear. It's great to hear some part of me is alright (even if I do have Funcational Movement Disorder) great.

Wine sweetie isn't the answer. Alot of the medications you have in the future will need you to seriously give up the wine if not reduce down to the odd glass during the week.  That is a high amount you are drinking and you will end up needing more and more in the future.  Paracetamols are much good with our type of pain, that's mainly for acute pain.  You've got chronic pain (2 different types responding to different types of medicine). You need yourself a different doctor, one who believes and understands Chronic Pain.  Some of mine is in similar areas of the body to yours. I have found wearing magnetic wrist bands and magnetic back supports very useful.  I try not to wear them all the time cos you get to needing more (I got up to wearing 3 back supports on top of each other at the same time).

Amiliptreyne (spelt like that) is very good. Some CBT stress talking might help you out with handling your stress issues (they helped me).  I have an Orthopaedic mattress and massage might be nice for you to relieve some of the stress and relax the muscles.

My biggest advice is to cut down the wine, cut down on those medicines.  Get started on the correct medicines for chronic pain and seriously start reducing the stress if you can.  Stress does make the pain and tiredness worse & definately the IBS!  You are 'normal' but you're coping with the pain in not the best why. You're trying to numb yourself I think.

I'm not preaching, I'm trying to help.  You're current numbing affecting methods will lose their affect and you'll have to keep on increasing them to get the affect.

Talking on this forum is very helpful.  We're a mixed age lot. I'm 36 and have suffered since I was at least 14.  xx

yes i am afraid so this and possiably even more symptoms will come along .

accupunture works well for my i b s , so does reflexolgy . and of course so does using a self hypnoise cd for ibs  . or a combination .

some people can drink with FM some like myself cant with out making myself even worse more exshusted , and my i b s also  worsens .also gives me much  more pain .

i use magneisum oil applied to my legs  arms and trunk that helps with the pain, and take supplements . never had pharm drugs

. the worst part for me is when i get pain in my feet its torture , i can hardly put them to the floor ,but since iv found what works for me ,touch wood iv not had an episode . its all trial and erorr . what works for some of us dosent work for otheres

dont rely on your gp to have all the answers he hasnt, he has only suggestions . do some internet searching for alternative approachs, and try to take the time to try some that make sense,  i find the supplement NANO GOLD  works well as a supplement and helps with the fatigue . to.

    Dear Estrella,

Codeine packets have been marked up as for 3 days use only. You may be in withdrawal from the codeine and your body may be demanding more.

Also, I would go easy on anything acidic, sauces, oranges etc

    Best wishes

Hi Estrella, you are not on your own, I too have all your symptons and more, I also have a couple of wines a night, I haven't noticed it affecting more having a drink because I feel the same without one, I have a very stressful life at the moment and find it helps me to relax, it is very normal how you are feeling, I too take paracetamol as the better drugs you can take don't agree with me, my family try to understand but don't think sometimes that they really do, that's what this sight is for to talk to people who really do understand smile, I have starting talking vitamin Q10 and am finding now it is in my system that my energy levels are better, I have also been advised by my doctor to take Vit D as mine is extremely low, that helps too and now my levels are rising, you arnt on your own so keep in touch with all the lovely people on here for help, take care. Welcome to the Fibro club, we all suffer the same. Come on this site often, and you will see.

Hi and welcome to the "Fibro Club" a club that we all wish we did'nt belong to. What you are feeling is normal. I have had fibro (diagnosed 4 yrs ago). Stress is one of your enemies. If at all possible you need to de-stress you life as much as possible. I live in the US and here what my pain mgmt doctor does is vary my dosage of my hydrocodein. We use more milligrams when it is winter and then when it starts to warm up we start decreasing my dosage. She has told me numerous times that I will not become addicted if I follow instructions (one of my fears because I have been on them for 4yrs). The other parts of my cocktail are Lyrica and Trazadone. It took me quite a while to find doctors that understood what I was going through. I was treated like the "crazy lady" in the doctors office so don't feel bad I think we have all been there. I am not able to work and my husband is very understanding (something I am very greatful for) and he tries to keep my life as stress free as possible. I also have pain in my joints. I get Nerve Block Injections for this pain (for me they last about a year and REALLY help). The feeling of exhaustion all the time is your body telling you that you are over the limit that it can take. All of us have limits (varies from person to person) on what you an do on a daily bases (it varies from day to day also some days good other days not so much). You really need to back down what you are doing if at all possible. Take some vacation time if you have any and just rest. You will know when you have rested enough because you will not feel exhausted. Then slowly add items back into your life and listen to your body. You will start to feel tired when you have reached your limit. Once you have figured out your limit then you can decide if you wish to go over your limit. But remember going over your limit will result in pain and exhaustion taking a day or two to get over. Hope this helps you smile
