New Zealand Paitent

Hi I am from NZ and wondering if there are many on this forum from NZ also.  If so does anyone know of a specialist in LS here?  I live in South Island but would be prepared to travel.  I have been to 3 specialists in 2 regions but none seem very experienced with LS and I have had conflicting diagnosis.  Thank you if you can help.

    Hi Jess

I am from NZ and diagnosed a year ago. I am in Tauranga and have dealt with a sympathetic doctor but who has not seen a patient with LS before so referred me to a gynaecologist who gave me Clobetasol and oestrogen but no clear directions how/when or where to apply or any real support. The support I have had comes from these forums, I've learned a lot in a short time.

But, like you I want to discuss my treatments and options with someone specialised so have found a clinic in Hamilton which deals only with skin conditions such as dermatitis and two doctors who specialise with vulval health within the clinic.   I had to have a referral from my doctor which she gladly gave. It's an hour away but that's nothing to get this business addressed. I know there is also another specialist named Elizabeth Baird in Auckland who treats a woman who posts on another LS site (highly recommended by her) and I would have gone to her, but Hamilton is closer.

I presume you have searched online for a specialist in your region, it seems incredible that there is nobody in Chch. Possibly Wellington? Good luck with your search.

I am going to the Tristram clinic in two weeks and am hopeful for some answers to my concerns.  I searched online for info then rang them and made sure they dealt with LS and have a half hour appointment so obviously quite comprehensive and thorough. Fingers crossed.

    Wishing you well

Oooops, I meant the specialist in Auckland is highly recommended by her NOT the other LS site!

    Heya Jess, (and Lynn..smile

Ive seen a gynaecologist in Wellingotn - she was weird. Confirmed the LS without even examining me - it took two seconds - and $200.

My GP referred me to the Sexual Health Cininc in Wellingotn, have seen Jennifer Haywood. She seems good. Has prescribed me oestrogen and dermol and is looking into the testosterone for next time (3 months away). She has LS clients 1-2 /week, so its more common than I thought it was.

I know ther's a couple of others form NZ here or on the other forum

Hey Lene, penny dropped who you are, only took me 4 days! Haha

hope you're doing well these days and having fun in Wellington.

Only two weeks till my appointment, it's costing me $300 but will be worth it to get some questions I have answered, but to be seen by someone who deals with LS often is the key for me so fingers crossed. X

You're very lucky to have found a doctor who is knowledgeable. My luck tends to run with the other type. Two minutes and $200 and out the door. Good luck with your visits!

Don't give up though. Have your gp refer you I to a specialist. I don't know how bad your symptoms are out what you're using. But it's also for your own sanity to have a professional take you seriously.

      Good luck
