Hi ,I am in day 5 and already tired of sitting all day . I fell and broke my 5 metatarsal with a displaced fracture .I got a black boot up to my knee at the hospital and was told I could only take it off at night . I don't see the ortho until another 2 weeks for the first time so I don't know much or anything as of now but the Dr at the hospital said I may or may not need surgery and if I did it was not major so that helps with my fears i guess .I am 64 and was always running around a lot so to sit is just so hard. I already feel so lonely.Well I will do my best to get through this and pray no surgery .Thank all who came ahead of me for sharing .It really helps me to read and makes me feel hopeful .I wish you all the best in your recovery .  smile

Hi Bailey , I broke my 4th and 5th both displaced from falling. I'm 54. I saw the surgeon the following week after going to the ER . However I was casted. A soft cast with a splint. I got a boot up to my knee when I saw the surgeon. And I was told to sleep in it. Even when I took a shower I had to cover it with a plastic bag. I did have the surgery. It's been a long process for me. I'm in physical therapy now because I was non weight bearing for so long, I had issues with being able to walk. Yesterday was the first day I successfully walked with a cane and took steps on my own. Very long road for recovery for me. Best of luck to you.

Things will get better as you get used to the boot. I am on week 8 today still have boot on night and day but can put heal down since week 6 have to go back to Dr.in 2 weeks and hope I will be fit to put some more weight on it.I know how you feel as I 62 and looking at young people on the cruches makes me feel old but it paid me to sit a lot of the first 6 week's because it is healing it may be slow but no operation. Days can be long but get a book and read and puzzle books are a good pa§ time I never did puzzle books till now .best of luck with your next Dr.visit

I put a plastic chair in the tub, it was my left foot so I was able to keep it out of the tub by putting my leg out and on another chair. Like I said my boot never came off. Changed the shower head to a hand held one. Believe me it sucked. I was over the moon when I was actually able to get that foot wet!

I put bin bags over boot tie it tight at top put old chair in shower sit on it and shower. Always need help at this if no one at home I keep chair in bathrooms and sit at sink and wash .I take boot off some times and put my foot in dish of water. You can always get round things if you have to.
