Hi been to drs yesterday after feeling ill for what seems like a year now. Constantly tired never refreshed ache all over coldlike symptoms with headache stiffness etc

My dr was good and mentioned fibro straight away said he wanted to do blood tests to check nothing else wrong and put me on neproxin. I had to be signed off work for 2 weeks as my job very physical and just cant manage.

Im left feeling confused fo i really have fibro? I have noticed some people are in severe pain with it but i just ache, the tiredness is the worst for me.

I am worrying that i wont be able to continue my job feeling quite down.

Any help would be good

Don't lose hope, lots of people Iknow with this llive active full lives, it effects everyone different, so don't think because joblogs has it really bad , you will follow down the same route, ask your Dr about surport groups or pain clinic, they will teach you how to deal with flare up or any changes you might encounter. Always here for a wimge and moan.

hi princesswinnie i know exactly how you feel i work on reception and do filing and switchboard it was so painful to file the other day but i just slowed down and never gave up as the thought of giving up my part time job does not bare thinking about. when my neck and shoulder pain gets bad i put my head set on and go for a walk round the showroom and i class myself lucky to be able to do that, my pain feels like tooth ache but it can be anywhere, to think that this is my life now makes we want to cry but what will that do give me sore eyes!! keep your chin up somes days will be worse then others  but there is no miracle to make it go away i wondered if i really had it as i dont feel over tired but then some people dont.Lets hope its not fibro when you get your blood tests back because i would not wish this on my worst enemy but i wont let it beet me i still do my 5 mile dog walk 4 times a week and i heard swimming is a really good exercise for us so hope you start to feel better hopefully when your meds kick in, and sorry about your dog did you know the loss of a loved one( and i am sure that would include a dog) can trigger fibromyalgia x

I have had fibro since the 80s although only diagnosed a few months ago. I still hold down a job, look after the house and enjoy my dogs. I am not saying it's not hard but a positive mental attitude goes along way.  the consultant when she diagnosed me said I could either let it get to me and never get out of bed or get on however hard it may seem and do some gentle moving around.   I take no drugs as such just some pain killers when it gets really bad. I decided to go down the alternative route and have hypnotherapy, magnesium baths, no refined sugars or gluten and cook everything from scratch.   It works to a reasonable extent for me but as you know fibro is different for every one of us. So sorry to hear about your dog. I have several because I cannot bear to be without a four legged friend and so there are always at least 3 for me to cuddle when  I am down.

Hi, I have Fibro too.   It took the hospital several years to come up with the diagnosis.  I also have osteo arthritis, and I had several blood tests as they thought of reumatiod arthritis.

I think its good that your GP is thinking fibro quickly, as well as testing you to mke sure nothing else is causing the problem.  Your pain may not be as bad as someone elses, but  the pain and disability caused can vairy in different people.    So its no reason to expect your pain to be as bad.  I am not as bad as a lot of people on here, but find certain things very difficult.  Most people find what is going to cause them the most pain and are able to avoid this most of the time, it just depends on what makes the pain and fatigue worse.  Its easier to avoid some things than others!  Good luck.

Hi, fatigue is a big thing for me too. I'm also wondering how much longer I will be able to continue working. Good to hear you're GP is on the ball, it makes a huge difference when you have an understanding doctor.

Yes him being understanding does help. Just been for blood tests and looks like i was tested for everything including rhemology, worried if that comes back clear he wont believe me and say there is nothing wrong with me. Still feeling lost as i know how i feel everyday

If your GP mentioned fibro, he wll know that the blood tests will come back negative.  I think he is just being careful and making sure that you don't have something else, as the treatment for that may be different.  I know its not easy but try not to feel he will think its not real, because of the blood tests.  I've had lots of tlood tests, just to make sure things are still the same and so far mine are negative.

Maybe you've felt worse since the new job as its extra stress and its fibro causing it. You may well feel better when you settle down.

Think i was just surprised and also getting my head around the diagnosis... I dont deal with stress well and losing my dog a week ago and the thoughts of leaving my job just making symptoms worse.

I know deep down i wont be able to continue my job as its too physical so the financial implications are also affecting me

Please do not make any hasty decisions on employment. Get legal advice as employers do have to make reasonable adjustments to enable you to stay in employment and if you throw in the towel then you may find yourself viewed as resigning and as a result you will lose benefits you may have been entitled to if you have not "jumped through the right hoops".    I am lucky in that my employer has made reasonable adjustments for me on bad days and I know it is not possible for all but although we all moan about work I would be lost without it. No socialisatio with colleagues, not exercising the  grey matter or moving around  and keeping mobile. I think I would just get so depressed and stressed it would make it worse. Take care, thinking of you.

Hi i get what you are saying but i work one to one as a support worker it wont be possible to make adjustments for me plus like i said it is very physical and i suffer after just one shift. I dont want to not work but before i got diagnosed i had come to the conclusion that my job wasnt helping.

I need to change to something more suitable

I had to gibe my I loved as head of dementia care, because not only was it physically hard but emotional to, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel I'm working as a despencer at a pharmacy I love it no stress part time and I'm sane, you need to work for sanaty or you will get worse, I was given some good advice once by a lovely nurse who had fibro, on good days take it easy and on bad push yourself harder, its not easy but it helps to take your mind off the pain x
