Hi, Drs are hopeless, so I was hoping to get your opinion. I was diagnosed with Meniere's a few weeks ago but now Dr says maybe Meniere's maybe not as I don't have new hearing loss. I have poor hearing anyway from damage because of years of infections. I don't have any sinus congestion. I have short episodes of vertigo which are usually followed by diarrhea. I have had tinnitus for as long as I can remember, decades! I have fullness in my head and it feels as though hands are cupped over my ears. The fullness in my head is usually constant but I might get a couple of hours break a week. Nausea comes and goes. I have noise sensitivity, and even hear things that aren't there but this doesn't happen a lot. Apart from tinnitus, other symptoms started a couple of months ago. I don't drive far now, only in my local area, which is quite small with not much traffic, as I'm too lightheaded. I also have ear pain in both ears and headache at the base of my skull from ear to ear which come and go. I also now become so sleepy that I have to nap during the day, which I never did before. My Dr said go home and it might settle down. What do you think, could it be Meniere's or not?

Hearing loss is usually the defining factor with MD. That being said, this does not rule out other issues that can happen with the ear/vestibular nerve. Further evaluation by an ENT/neurologist should be done.

Can you give me the exact results of your audiogram?  At which frequencies is the hearing loss documented?

Thank you for replying, I have been looking for my last report but I can't find it. I remember it showed high frequency was very good but not so good with low frequency, in fact I now have a hearing aid for my left ear and was told that my right will eventually need one as well. Wish I could be more specific. Thanks

The low frequency hearing loss is compatible with Meniere's disease.

It seems you need another evaluation by an ENT to help you manage this!(not ALL are useless LOL😉wink

And you should get another copy of your audiogram from your audiologist!

I'm not a dr.but I feel a brain MRI and CT scan temporal bones and sinuses would be indicated .

I agree, have an MRI done to rule out anything else. Some of your symptoms do not sound like Meneires.

I also agree with couple of other responses from others, suggesting an MRI of head and neck just to rule out unusal happenings. And if that comes out clean, then you will join the reat of the Menier's crowd by reading, researching, taking doctor's prescriptions with a grain of salt and being your own advocate to help heal some of your symptoms. Most of us agree that stress is one of the biggest cause of bouts or attacks of vertigo/dizziness in our experience. This said, we are all different and you will have to find a way for more relaxation in your life. Take care!

    Hi,

It sounds like you have a number of the symptoms to qualify as suffering from Meniere's. The 3 mains one are loss of hearing, tinnitus and dizziness.

I get other symptoms: - Nausea, Diarrhea, and a couple of others, there are 10 symptoms in total. Many people have fullness in their ear?

You need to get your Doctor to refer you to a specialist asap so you can get medication. Don't let them fob you off, they don’t have to live with this condition and have no idea how debilitating it can be. It takes months to get an appointment with a specialist.

Reduce you intake of salt. I have and it has made a definite difference, keep yourself well hydrated. I am looking into taking vitamins at the moment especially Vitamin B6 known to be an anti dizziness and Nausea powers.

    Good luck keep in touch

Hi everyone and thank you, especially eleftherio33095 for taking the time to reply and sorry for the dr dig, I was feeling frustrated and fobbed off at the time. I have had a CT scan and nothing showed. Dr said clear sinuses so probably not meniere's. I don't understand this reasoning. Dr doesn't want to do anything else yet. Thank you all again.

This DOES NOT make sense at all actually if your sinuses are clear better chance it may be menieres !and they like to do MRI to rule out other things like acoustic neuroma.dont give up get another opinion

Yes, that's what I thought! Unfortunately there is only one other dr in my area and I do not like him at all. So I guess I just keep going back to doc each time symptoms strike, he will eventually get sick of that and will investigate further.
