Hi, I have just been diagnosed with Type 1 Hereditary Haemochromatosis and on the Path Report it stated I am HFE type YYHH

position 282 YY ( homozygous)

Position 63   HH (wild type)

Serum ferritin 667

My doctor is reffering me to a liver specialist, so I just wait and see!

Gee, the genetic reports are getting complicated.  Was it explained to you that they tested for both C282Y and H63D, and that the results show you are homozygous C282Y, i.e. C282Y/C282Y, and you did not have the H63D gene?  Wild type meaning no genetic mutation for that gene.

Good luck with the liver specialist.  I prefer a haemotologist as I don't have liver problems.

Thanks for your reply Sheryl, no I hadn't any idea what those figures meant at all

having never even heard of the condition before I was told a couple of weeks ago!

So your information is much appreciated.

I also have been told I have no problem with my liver,

as the MRI was clear and also liver function normal,

maybe I will ask about seeing a haemotologist.
