Newby complete ATR

I have just had a complete rupture of my AT. I have been to hospital and knew immediately what the problem was. Fortunately the emergency doctor referred me to a sports injury surgeon who happened to be there! So he gave me the options of op or non op recovery and advised the benefits of both but wouldn't say which to go for. I have opted for the operation I am 46 and he is happy to do this. He hasn't done any MRI or X-ray but it is obvious what the problem is. I am already in plaster pre-op to avoid further damage, not feeling much pain other than discomfort.

It has been interesting reading everyone's input and whether to have the op or not and talk about confused!

Not sure what to expect now, other than I really appreciate what I have had and makes you realise those with permanent disabilities have to go through.

Just cancelled my ski trip aswell, to me this happened playing badminton right after squash, felt like I had tripped in a hole but funnily enough no pain despite reading everyone's else's Input.

so any advice to help me get through this would be appreciated.

Hi darrin. Just wondered how you are and what progress has been made. I also had a fall in January and am still having problems with pain etc., First my gp was told it was sciatica ( foot ankle ) then after I asked for exray said it was arthritic. It only happened at time of fall was fine before fall...seems like a guessing game So hope you have recovered, thought you would have been given some information. Sports poeple get foot injuries and seem to get better with treatment if no bone broken.

Hi, well I am well on the road to recovery thank you. Have been signed off by the specialist and slowing down on physio and having it when needed. I am walking, but still feel a bit stiff and have been given the go ahead to resume squash from September, not sure whether I will or not! I can play golf as well but again not going to push this. If I am on my feet too long then it does feel uncomfy and some minor pain but that is it. have used bio oil as well. lots of exercise and ankle movements. assume you had no break or achilles injury so can't really tell. have you gone to a physic? are they sure there isnt a small fracture there? have you gone private or nhs? you may want a second opinion. hope it gets better for you.

The physio has suggested to gp bone specialist, same from pain dr..but he said dont expect much hope... The problem as I see it is the foot will not go flat like other foot since injury....up till then had no problem with foot. Troubled with pain/discomfort since January when no care was given until a few weeks ago. Surely if foot will not go flat following fall it should have been easy to diagnose by speciallist almost right away. Now pressure is put on rest of body...knees, leg and back muscles, balance. On nhs...fall happened on hosp., ward In a way I have to push for care...seems its a case of accept what happened. I was very active in spite of age, so life has changed drastically. Unfortunately having to take pain relief still, so need diagnosis asap. now.
