Hi,

I been experciencing all sorts of problems and am beginning to get feeling doctor and other's view me as a hypochondriac. After a battle was diagnosed with Hashi's thyroid ( underactive, am 36 mother of 2), and the doctor was very reluctant to give diagnosis, so pushed to see an endocrinologist who eventually gave diagnosis, but put me on very low dose of levothyroxine..Anyway to cut long story short, was fed up with everything that came with that found a forum and am now self medicating after feeling medical profession let me down, however was still attending doctor for unexplained tiredeness, bowel problems and a hand tremor, was tryng to treat symptoms ( once again ) in isolation , did a full biochemistry and then when went to get results , said in a casual matter of fact manner ( as in couldn't care and nothing to worry about), that bilirubin levels slightly elevated every time tested and probaly have Gilbert's.

Looked it up on internet, and symptoms's and other's experiences made penny drop re my symptoms that were not improving..i had noticed since some time last year that eyes getting yellow on and off, and someone mentioned kidney problems..!! 2 weeks ago doctor gave me an anitibiotic for an infection , (dirty mucus ,bad cough), however never really cleared and now has me on stronger ones, Erythromycin 250mg , four times a day for a week , and only taken four but stong stabbing pains coming and going on lower right back, is the Gilbert/livers related..?

    Hi,

Dont know if you have already ready my other posts on this site but B12 Def can b linked with elevated billirubin and both have same symptoms as each other!!!! It would be worth you asking doc for a B12 test......Like you I had throat and chest infection which would not clear up and after 4 wks of various antibiotics and steroids I pushed docs for more blood tests and he suggested the B12 test......what other symptoms are you experiencing?? and what level was your billirubin?

    Regards

Hi i take b12 in tablet form anyway as part of hypothyroidism treatment ( self), I can't exactly remember what last count was, they are very loathe to do test as one off, as had asked previously re thyroid problems, they will only do it as full biochemistry ,or if present with anemia symptoms.

my current symptoms are tiredness, not much taste, or appetite, stabbing pains in lower right back, and slight yellowing to eyes.

Hi...The trouble is that alot of GP's dont know enough about GS or B12 Def (pernicious aneamia) so alot of people go un-diagnosed or get the wrong treatments. I really persisted with my GP and I always ask for a copy of my blood results so I can monitor myself.......when they do bloods they normally always check MCV which is size of red blood cells, and if these are elevated then again can be a sign of B12 def....some people taking the tablet form cannot ingest B12, so still worth pushing for B12 test. After alot of investigation it seems that we are all different and someone with a mildly high billirubin level can have more symptoms than someone who is showing very high levels, and this is what the docs fail to understand. By GS levels have fluctuated over the past 2 years between 32 and 45 and my B12 at 358 which is enough to have made me extremely ill for 3 months. Anyway keep on at your doctor and dont feel like you are being a pain, as its your quality of life thats being affected and not theirs!!! Good Luck...
