Newly diagnosed

I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease just over two months ago. I am on Serc 24 mg three times a day.

I had an MRI to rule out anything going on in my head and I've had five injections in my ear . My symptoms settled for a short period of time but now I'm having a reoccurrence. I cannot get in to see the doctor to get assessed while my symptoms are present. The biggest issue i am finding is tinnitus but I'm not having vertigo right now. I'm half afraid that I'm going to go deaf as before he would inject my ear when this happened. Is that a possibility?

Betahistine (Serc) takes at least a month to take full effect and you may need to go to a higher dose to get full control. It should help calm down the tinnitus and reverse some hearing loss - no guarantees - but my experience has been tinnitus reduced to background and left with 30-35% hearing loss mainly in lower register. Full control of vertigo and nausea and after 6 months am able to wean off Serc.

FYI my dose of Serc went as high as 62mg tds and could have gone higher if necessary.

Good luck - 70% of us get better so statistics are on your side.

Not sure if your question re Serc was aimed at me. I got meniere's out of the blue four and a half years ago. Took Serc for nearly a year and then had 21 months with nor probs! When I realised symotoms were returning went back on high dose Serc - this time for 14 months. Am of again and in remission.

Hmm so I can assume Serc will be a part of my life forever. I would love to know how the heck we get this out of the blue. I feel like the people around me don't understand it at all. I think it's a disease that unless you have it, No one understands it.
