Newly diagnosed with gout, no symptoms and was prescribed uloric..

Hi guys!

I'm 26 years old and was recently diagnosed with gout. I have not had a flare, knock on wood, however I do feel tingling-ness from time to time by my toe joint after I consume too much meat or sweets.. my doctor prescribed me uloric because my uric level came out to be 9.5. My question is, I do not have any flares, have not had any, knock on wood, if I start taking uloric, will it cause flares? I've read that uloric causes flares (the bad before the good I guess, getting rid of the uric acid now for the better).. I'm worried that once I start taking it I will get flares.

Has anyone experience this too? No flares, diagnosed with gout, prescribed uloric, took uloric..... Then?

Did you have a flare/flares? If so, how soon they they occur after taking uloric and how long did they last?

To tell you guys the truth, i am scared. I've even changed my diet. I use to eat what I want when I want, do not like sea food, raw food, liver, organs, do not like beer but will occasionally drink it.. when I say occasionally, I mean once in a blue moon, a sip here and there. I'm more of a margaritas and shots here and there type of person. That being said, I only drink occasionally.. once a month or two months. Love sweets, cake ice cream etc but I feel like I don't consume it that much.... Also, my work schedule is very strict. I'm not sure if I will be able to hold up during the flares or take a week off for recovery..

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and stay healthy my friends!!

Hi Always, when i got gout I was very young, when i turned 36 I got my second gout attack, yet, my doctor thought I was too young to be taking gout medicine such that I have never taken Allopurinol or uloric acid even when my uric acid was 6.5. With this said I I started doing trial and error experiments to see what would give me gout and I was able to come up with wheat being a culprit and also my favorite food pickled herring. Another thing that will make you gain weight and become obese is drinking diet soda it's the worst thing for anyone to drink in fact it is worse than drinking regular soda but even taking regular soda since his hot has high fructose and corn syrup it's bad for gout so I suggest that you cut out drinking soda completely from your diet. The other thing that's really bad is drinking shots this has a lot of sugar in it and there sugar in and drinks will cause gout attacks. I would say that if you have a gout attack then you start taking whatever is recommended but since you haven't had a gout attack I would start a water fast and working out and doing cleansings for your body to expel the monosodium accumulated in your system. When I get a gout attack my doctor prescribes indomethacin which helps reduce the pain and the swelling and still to date he won't prescribe Allopurinol.

What Rusty gecko says about kickbacks and prescribing you a very expensive drug he's on the right track are you Asian by any chance? if you are then that's why they would give you this drug to you but if you're not there's no reason for it.

Interesting read regarding Uloric vs Alpurinal.  I questioned my doctor about why Uloric and not Allpurinal and was told by him and pharmacist that Uloric was to decrease blood Uric acid levels and Allpurinal was to maintain

They are wrong. Or you misunderstood.

“Allopurinol, sold under the brand name Zyloprim among others, is a medication used to decrease high blood uric acid levels.”

“Allopurinol is a drug that blocks the production of uric acid in your body. This means that uric acid crystals will move from your joints and other tissues into circulation and be passed out in your urine. In the first year of Allopurinol treatment flare-ups of gout can occur more often. To prevent this happening we prescribe colchicine or an anti-inflammatory during the first year of Allopurinol treatment.”

      Etc etc etc.

Experiments on myself. Without allopurinol, my blood urate is 9.5-11+. With it it goes down to under 3. I have done the experiment several times.

I find it shocking that a doctor and a pharmacist would both get such a basic fact wrong.

However, money does strange things to the mind.  If you are in the USA (I don’t know if you are) or somewhere with private medicine another factor comes into play: commissions and sales.

Febuxostat costs about $2,000 per year, whereas allopurinol costs about $15 per year.

The patent restrictions on Febuxostat are set to expire in March 2019 so after that date we can look for generic availability, and costs comparable to Allopurinol.

    Update:

I have lost my way and started back at my old habits of eating bad. Yesterday evening, Saturday evening, I felt slight pain in my left ankle, unable to twist my foot to the right. I didn't think anything of it other than I must have done something "lowkey" to strain my ankle, however, I know I didn't do much but run errands around town. This morning, the mild pain is still there. I can walk and stand. I'm not sure what my uric acid levels are at right now.

My question to you guys, do you think this is my form of gout? No pain in toe, mild pain in left foot ankle, unable to twist foot to right. I am not not on any medication for treating gout.

Please let me know your thoughts. Scared out of my mind.

If pain does not go away by Wednesday, I am meeting with my GP/NP asap.

    Thanks in advance guys,
