Newly diagnosed with high tsh levels

Posted , 4 users are following.

Recently went for bloodwork. Came back with high tsh levels. Was retested. Will I automatically be out on medication or is there anything else I can do, such as diet and exercise?

Depends on how far high your TSH is, and if your thyroid has stopped working altogether. You need to get tested for the antibodies that could indicate that your immune system is attacking your thyroid. That condition is known as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Google it. Changes in diet are reputed to be effective for in some cases.

    Hello Sandra, great question!

There are tons of things you can do to help your thyroid!

A completely gluten free diet-absolutely no cheating! You’ll need to do some research on this.

Paleo style diet. Its extremely important that you get enough protein.  Limit sugars to minimal fruits.

Clean, unprocessed foods. So mamy if our foods contain harmful additives. Best to avoid all processed foods.

Good quality vitamin supplement containing coblimated Bs.

    Good quality multimineral supplement.

Essential amino acid complex and phenylalanine.

    Exercise, exercise, exercise.

    Detox.

Thyroid disease is generally autoimmune, caused by exposure to microbes, radiation and chemicals.  Mercury and bromine are specifically known to trigger thyroid disease. Detoxing can go a long way towards healing your body.

When the thyroid is out of whack, there are other conditions that accompany thyroid disease- vitamin and mineral deficiencies, protein deficiencies, digestive problems, food allergies and sensitivities, autoimmune disease, adrenal exhaustion, sluggish or toxic liver, diabetes, chronic pancreatitis...

Its very imprtant to have good gut health, as malabsorption of foods can result in many vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Chronic pancreatitis can lead to extenside health problems and is helped by digestive enzymes and foods that are easy to digest.

Well, that should get you started. It is possible to get thyroid disease into remission.

Also, please read through the many posts here from people on levothyroxin and thyroid disease. The medications can take a while to get the right dose and has side effects. Also. Be sure to read the infirmation sheet that comes with your medication about side effects or do an onlibe search, so you know what to watch for.

    Good luck!
