Newly diagnosed with inflamatory arthitis

Hi there,

Ive just been dianosed with IA. The doc isnt sure which type it is but said all types are treated like RA. Im on vimovo for a two month period and have to go to every second day abd then start methotrexate which terrifies me. I am very well on the vimovo and playing tennis a few times a week with no pain apart from the odd ache which all of my fit friends get. The inflamation has been in my left knee and right ankle. Im hoping to hear some positive methotrexate stories as what i have read is quite upsetting.

thanks.

I ve been on mxt 2 and half years. I do not feel sick taking it but others meds were added to control my RA as it wasn't enough. Everyone s RA is different and everyone responds differently to mxt but it is the gold standard drug so must be helpful to many. Unfortunately a minority do have a bad response regards to side effects. One good thing is that you have a blood test every month to check liver etc is ok .I didn't like the idea of it but actually it's been fine.

Thanks so much for your reply. Its good to hear that you are responding well to the methotrexate. I like the idea of the blood test as i was concerned about the toxic effects.

      thanksĀ

      Hi Jackie

I wish I could be more positive about methotrexate but I have been on it a couple of months and had my routine minister check on Thursday last week and the hospital rang me Friday to tell me to come off it as my enzymes in my liver high, I haven't been feeling that good, also I have hives appear on my hands I really don't want to go back on it although they told me on the phone that I have to come off it and monitor me again in two weeks then may put me back on it to see if it happens again, scarey stuff but yes a wonder drug if ur body can tolerate it , good luck

Thanks Shirlee. Sorry to hear that but it is good to know that you are monitored so that safety comes first. I hope it works out for you.
