Newly diagnosed with SIBO after years of hell

hi
After years and years of terrible bowel and digestive symptoms I finally got a diagnosis of Sibo. Not one dr ever mentioned Sibo over the years they just said I have bowel motility issues/constipation/IBS but I knew there was more going on than just that. Earlier this year I ended up being seen by someone new who said my symptoms sounded just like sibo and I should be tested.. yes finally! I have constant excessive gas which smells like sulfur. Most of the gas is permanently trapped and makes my life an absolute misery and lying down at night is hell. I find it gets even worse when I have any sugars, carbs, certain veggies, lactose basically a whole host of things. I have been put on a low fodmap diet and given erythromycin to get bowels moving but not antibiotics. The test showed I have quite an overgrowth of bacteria so does anyone know why antibiotics are not being suggested to start with?
Many thanks

I was also diagnosed with Sibo last february. I followed the low fodmap diet and because I refuse to take antibiotics, as the fix one problem but cause another, I took oil of oregano, which is a natural antibiotic. The doctor prescribed this for me, maybe you could ask your doc about it. A lot of my symptoms improved, I still have some that linger but I'm not sure they are caused by my bowels.
Good luck!

Thanks! I've heard about oregano oil so I will definitely give that a go. I hate taking antibiotics but I just really need some relief after all these years.

Dizzygirl, you ARE being treated with antibiotics. Erythromycin is an antibiotic, not a medicine to get your bowels moving, although that may happen.

I know erythromycin is an antibiotic but it is not one they use to treat sibo so it will likely have no effect on the bacteria. I was told I'm being given it as a prokinetic to help with bowel motility and nothing more.

That's funny because when I read the post I also though that Erythromycin was an antibiotic, but then thought I must be mistaken

Ah yes, I understand now. Is it working?
