Is anyone else taking this? I have been taking it for 2 weeks and my mouth feels rough and burning I don't know if it's still the acid or this tablet? Also does anyone else suffer from regurgitation still whiles on Ppi. I seem to do it after every meal now. It's getting me down.

    Hi Kate,

I have never taken Nexium, only Lansoprazole, Omiprazole or Gaviston Advance but still get bouts of painful regurgitation. Certain foods seem to trigger it, such as tomatoes. My mouth and tongue are rough (but not burning), Someone on here recommended natural bran for breakfast with non-citrus fruit such as banana and sultanas. This seems to help me, so might be useful for you to try. As you say, it gets you down and the GP although very good with my other complaints, doesn't seem to find much to help me with the reflux, which can be extremely painful sometimes. One of my troubles is so much medication for other illnesses, which I must take, and certain ppi's cant be taken with heart meds. Hope you soon find something that eases it for you.

    Regards, Val.

Thanks for responding Val, I have osophagitis which omeprazole wasn't helping so they switched me to Nexium. However I still don't feel any better. How long is it until osophagitis heals properly? I'm so fed up with this and as you say Gp are not really much use, the answer I got was it was a difficult illness to treat. My story is in October I started to get some heartburn which Zantac wasn't helping. I was eating a piece of bread one morning (crusty type) and it hit a sore point in my throat. So I went to gp who put me on omeprazole. I was experiencing some blood in my spit also which was alarming me however was told this was acid irritation. Anyway they added domperidone into the mix at this point. I started also to wheeze and was sent for a chest X-ray which was clear. Gp told me wheeze was due to amount of mucous as I have a lot of that also. I was very concerned about my throat so I paid for a ENT guy to scope it, throat mouth and nose were clear however he saw some slight redness at top of osophagus. A week later I got my endoscopy which was clear no inflammation. So I started taking the omeprazole again and it wasn't helping so they switched me to nexium and to be honest I'm still not feeling the benefits I should. I take gaviscon advance after meals however the burning sensation starts in my mouth throat and nose usually an hour or 2 later. I just hate it, it feels constant 24 hours. Thanks for listening.

Don't give up searching for answers. Research Low stomach acid. Hiatus hernia. Don't wear tight clothing or belts. Eat little and often. If overweight try to diet. Avoid fatty foods. Keep a diary of everything you eat and look for connections. I've done all this. Still doing it and listening to other sufferers stories. Most of my symptoms have disappeared. Hope you find the help your looking for.

I found huge relief by eating according to Dr. Koufman's book, "Dropping Acid." It is a awful title but an incredibly good and informative book. Dr. Koufman is well respected in her field and many reflux patients have found relief following her diet and recommendations.

I take 30mg Lansoprazole and Gaviscon Advance daily - I'm on my fourth month of medication. I have improved since I started taking the medication, but I'm still not completely cured. I'm still coughing after meals, my voice comes and goes and I feel a slight burning during the day. However, my mouth and throat were burning like yours, Kate099, when I first became ill and I was also clearing my throat constantly.- which made it very sore. It's taken three months to get to where I am now. I watch my diet very carefully, but occasionally have bad days when I have eaten something that sets things off. I thought I would be all right with pineapple, but apparently not! So, what I'm saying is that things will, hopefully, improve, but it may well be slow. My doctor told me that first the reflux has to got under control and then everything has to heal, which can take some time. It's good that your scopes were clear, apart from the redness - mine was similar. Are you still taking the Domperidone as well as the Nexium? If things don't improve I think I would go back to the GP and have another chat. Maybe you could keep a diary of how you are feeling, as well as a food diary so you could see what foods are affecting you? Have you raised your head at night? I have a wedge pillow, which has helped. I do hope you begin to feel better soon.

Oh thanks so much for your replies, I feel so desperate sometimes with this as it seems everything triggers it. I am keeping a food diary and I do have the Dropping Acid book and the head of my bed is raised 6-8 inches. Due to my sore throat the GI specialist recommended that I eat a soft food diet to heal the throat and it is a little better. I have lost a lot of weight which wasn't good for me as I am naturally thin. So I am a bag of bones at the moment. It feels a very lonely illness, thankfully this forum has allowed me to talk to others in the same situation as my poor family are despairing not being able to help me. I've even gone as far as looking at the Linx reflux surgery, I am really desperate for a solution. The specialist next plan is to see ENT if throat still sore and an osophageal manomatry/ph test. However I think I have to get well first as you have to come off the meds I think. I'm so grateful for your replies, thanks.

I am in almost the exact same situation. I have had terrible throat pain from acid reflux for close to 4 years now. I've actually been to see Dr. Kouffman too. My mouth started getting irretated about 2 years ago. I just started getting a horrible burning mouth and I've been on nexium for a few weeks now. This is a terrible thing to deal with. Please contact me if you ever want to talk.
