NICE: Atrial Fibrillation Management
Posted , 11 users are following.
NICE guidelines CG180 August 2014 requires GP’s offer people with atrial fibrillation a personalised package of care. The package should be documented and delivered and cover stroke awareness, rate control, rhythm control, contacts for advice, psychological support, anti coagulation and support networks. Is it just me or did I fall through the gap?

I'm not sure if we have this in Australia, if we do I have never heard of it. My GP was very sceptical about me even being in AFib and would give me a referral to a specialist. I changed GP's.

I am about to go onto rivaroxaban (Xarelto) and I wonder how are you coping with it. I heard that bleeding takes longer to stop. I have piles and sometimes my gums bleed, so I was wondering if these areof concern?

Just received a phone call US 618 314 8084 from caller ID NICOR SELECT saying a lawsuit has developed from Xarelto.
Could be a hoax, old news, I don't know, but felt I should pass it on.

Afiblady, I think you are correct in August 2014 but not sure of the outcome see: https://www.drugwatch.com/2014/08/04/xarelto-bleeding-lawsuits-filed/

I wouldn't think so Pauline,as it only came in in April, most of the specialties that have targets to be met like diabetes COPD and many others they are usually yearly checks.
I have been a patient volunteer in the NHS for 30 years and sit on my surgeries PPG (patient participation group) and I have never heard of AF being one of the target specialities, I am at a meeting tomorrow so will ask about it in AOB
Linda.

Hi Everyone,
I finally got a reply to the question I asked in AOB about AF being part of the QOF package, this the way they do it at the surgery I belong to.
and I quote For AF we run a search for patients with AF give the list to GP's they then work out a risk score and depending on results either see patients or review their medication.
Clear as mud I reckon and doesn't really answer the question!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Linda, The GP website states that NICE have told GP's to offer a 'personalised care package' to AF patients. NICE estimated that up to 7,000 strokes and 2,100 deaths could be prevented each year if the new guidance is followed. The guidance was introduced I believe in 2014 see: http://www.gponline.com/gps-told-offer-personalised-care-package-af-patients/cv-thromboembolic-disorders/atrial-fibrillation/article/1299369

The mud or more likely the blood thickens still more with the BMA reaction to NICE Guidelines, see: http://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/clinical/cardiovascular/gps-will-stop-initiating-atrial-fibrillation-treatment-under-proposed-nice-guidelines-bma-warns/1/20006724.article?PageNo=2&SortOrder=dateadded&PageSize=10#comments
