Night out

Hi all, just wanted to share this, six weeks tomorrow post Hip replacement, our Daughter gave us tickets for the Kilworth House Hotel Theatre and pre theatre dinner, this was last Xmas not knowing i would have had the Op, but I thought I had been doing well so would go, glad I did great dinner, followed by Sister Act on stage, it is an outside theatre covered, but we had been before last year, so we knew to wear a few layers after the dinner, but we were not cold and I feel great I was able to go and enjoy, bit tired this morning but well worth it, now doing excercises, just wanted to share this as pleased I could do it, have a great Sunday all.

Read other postings below and we are both the same age ie 67!! I walked a little further today so hoping I don't suffer too much tonight! My swelling is in my ankle.  Practice nurse said the swelling can go on for several weeks but that walking helps to push the fluid around.  Can't say I've noticed any difference yet but sure it will go in time.

Yes I was told the same about the swelling, so we will have to exchange notes once a week, keep that walking going, speak soon

Thanks, 67yrs young, as long as I can keep challenging myself hitting new targets, my only complaint is that I am still waiting for swelling to go down on knee, but reading on here after others THP a lot are suffering the same, enjoying the sun as it is out in Rugby today.

      Hi

Good for you.....you do need a treat. My first proper outing was on the Sat. I went in and had op on Friday was out on Monday then Saturday i said to hubby I would like to go to  the metro centre on my scooter. Against his will at first he drove me there, got the scooter out of the back of the car all the time lecturing me about the 90 degree angle and not bending etc. Eventually he said......right I'm comining back in 30 mins. So off I drove....OK it wasnt much but made me feel so independent

Found a cafe with outside tables {I wasnt getting off the scooter to walk far} Got off and sat down at the table knowing that someone would be out soon because there were a few plates on the table that needed clearing and i would ask her then to bring me some coffee.

So I felt quite pleased with myself......just little things  LOL

      Hi

Small world isnt it? Thats the one.......how many others are they. I find it great. I'm 8 months post 2nd THR and have a fracture in the greater trochanter which means I've been on 2 crutches for 8 months.......I go in there early some mornings to practice walking and posture....no bumpy footpaths etc and its under cover ...Thats my excuse anyway LOL

I drive....throw the crutches in the back and go. I'm about 15mins away from it.....its got nothing to do with the fact that there is a Starbucks therebiggrinbiggrin

Well done you! Such an encouragement as I count down the days till surgery. I'm only reading the positive info and ignoring the neg, so look forward to hearing more milestones!

How many more sleeps now??????, before Op I increased by sessions at our Gymophobics to strengthen muscles not only in legs but arms as well, as you need them whilst on crutches, I hope to return to Gym after seeing consultant on the 16th Sept, plus I really want to sleep on my side, but I have been good and have stayed sleeping on my back.

i know it is good to show negatives as well on here but as you say just concentrate on the positives and you will be fine, how is the weather up there today, here in Rugby it is dry with some cloud, let's hope sun comes out later , good luck

Hi Janet, just 12 sleeps!!! Gymphobics sounds great! I go to the gym but am reduced to 10-15 minutes hobbling on a treadmill and force myself to do some adductor and abductor weights to strengthen the hip. Going less and less though sad

I'm in Edinburgh today and it's warm but cloudy. Had a lovely day at home in Coldingham yesterday and did far too much in the garden and also cleaned out my summerhouse (shed with windows and chair!) with the thought that if the nice weather continues, I might recuperate out there!
