Night Sweats and Unpleasant "Aromas"

Very uncomfortable and demoralising situation to be in after having gone through the op and reached the other side!

May I suggest, what I had previously posted - sleeping ón towels on top of sheets and pillows, and spraying them with something like lavender, which is a good sleep aid, too, or any other fragrance?  There are also body sprays that you can use.

I have not been through the op yet, so not really in a position to recommend, but this is merely a suggestion that may or may not help.  At the best, you will smell lovely when you get into a nice aromatic bed, even if it doesn't last the night!  Get up and do it again?  Don't forget to run your wrists under cold water to cool down the blood stream, first.

Potpourri in the bedroom, and incense, if you can stand it, in the hall outside the bedroom, may help, too. There are also the plug ins, if you can stand those.

These are morale boosters at a time when you are not feeling your very best.

      Hi Damy:

I have not had the op yet.  Having said that, I have had hand surgery in San Francisco, and a Downes Syndrome termination at five months.  But, no particular after effects.

I have been through a lot, read a lot, and have taken various seminars, and talked to knowledgeable people.  I know that lavender and camomile, for example, are calmatives as is valerian.  I have credentials as a Clinical Hypnotherpist, but chose not to use them, as there is a lot of quackery out there, and having reached a patient's unconscious mind, you had better be capable of dealing with what comes up, because it can be traumatic, as I have found out!  However, self hypnosis/meditation is very useful, as was the disassocation from pain techniques used in hypnotherapy.  Suggestible patients are better subjects for hpynosis.  I was not, as I was resistant and too stong minded and "willful!"

I use classical music a lot, but am also self teaching piano, which takes me away to a better place!  Mother was a pianist, and former partners, a solo violinist and pianist, so have always been around music.

I can relate to that!  Sweaty Summers in Manhattan!  We would all use the fire escape stairs to get upto the roof.  There was always a party going on somewhere, so we would all troop across.  Back home down the metal staircase that was red hot, in our flip flops and bikinis.  Black smuts and a sticky mix of sweat and suntan lotion, intensifed with the smell of the barbecue and wine or beer.  Hop into a tepid shower, and gradually let the water run cold.  Plenty of soap and after suntan lotion!   That was the first year or so, until I discovered the joys of the Hamptons or Cape Cod, where people would rent houses on the beach for the Summer.  Major escape to the Hamptons after lunch on Friday returning on Sunday evenng or Monday morning!

      What a great life...!
